  • Excellent all around laptop
CPU: Ryzen 7-8840U Capacity: 16GB Style: 1TB SSD Color: Midnight Blue
This had everything I was looking for. 1TB, FHD camera w/cover, fingerprint reader, decent RAM, backlit keyboard, several USB 3.2 ports, Wifi 6E/AX. However, first thing I did was upgrade to Win 11 Pro. Once all set up, I realized the wireless was flakey and slow getting data...it frequently throttles to under 100 mbps (though I have the 600 plan). Very consistent using the speed test site. My other laptops consistently stay near 590mbps. Even after many resets and troubleshooting, the Realtek Wifi 6E card is deemed unstable in this laptop. So I put in a spare Intel AX210 Wifi 6E card....wow it's so stable now (btw, my other laptops have this same Intel NIC). Oh, I'm also upgrading to 32GB. Aside from that, this laptop is awesome and fast. ... show more

  • Love it...
CPU: Ryzen 5 7520U Capacity: 8GB Style: 512GB SSD Color: Carbon Black
I love everything about the Laptop. The speed, its not heavy at all. The image is so clear, the brightness was set on a good level. The laptop stayed charge so to me that's good battery life. And it didn't over heat. I was more happy about than anything. So far so good. The quality of the laptop is well worth it. ... show more

  • Holy moly this is a lot of laptop for the price.
CPU: Ryzen 5 7530U Capacity: 8GB Style: 512GB SSD Color: Platinum Silver
I wasn't really sure what to expect when I ordered this. It cost about the same as my HP laptop a couple years ago and had similar on-paper specs for the time (5500u vs 7530u, 1080p, white backlit keyboard, $550-$570 each, etc). However this Dell laptop (silver 7530u version) is so much better quality it's crazy. The lid and the keyboard deck of the Dell laptop are both aluminum. On the HP they were plastic and the keyboard deck flexed. Here they are solid aluminum with far less flex. The speakers are great. They're top-firing and on both sides of the keyboard, and actually sound good. The HP speakers were bottom-firing and vibrated. The trackpad is very large and responsive, and the keyboard is white backlit (on the silver 7530u version). In addition you get a fingerprint reader, which was not present on the HP and I did not expect it at this price. The screen is definitely either VA or IPS, but it's hard to say which. Viewing angles are good, contrast ratio is very good, and it has minimal/no backlight bleed. Saturation and accuracy is not bad, could be better, but ofc is still far better than any TN panel. The contrast ratio is really exceptional for this price. Dark areas look dark and bright areas are bright. Obviously with an APU you don't expect stellar modern game performance, but this holds up for my purposes (playing The Elder Scrolls Oblivion from 2006 at maximum settings around 60 fps). Even though Oblivion is very old at this point, remember this is not a gaming laptop. This is a thin-and-light notebook and the ability to play older games like that fluidly is a nice bonus. Downside: Dell ships it with a bunch of bloatware. But the good news is you're allowed to uninstall all the Dell-branded bloatware from the control panel without requiring any special tricks or workarounds. I'm very pleased with this laptop. Now the only thing to test is the durability/reliability, but of course I won't know that for several months or years. ... show more

  • Great CPU, very upgradeable/repairable, but slow SDcard reader. Works well under Ubuntu.
CPU: Ryzen 7-8840U Capacity: 16GB Style: 1TB SSD Color: Midnight Blue
The documentation is very good on Dell's website and everything is replaceable. I've upgraded to 64GB of RAM. The internal 2230 NVMe drive is actually on an adapter/heat spreader in a 2280 slot, so either is fine for upgrade paths. Said adapter has screws on the sides, so don't lose those nor will the adapter/spreader likely fit on another machine if you want to use the original 2230 elsewhere in a 2280 slot. I've also upgraded my storage so I may repurpose the original for my raspberry pi. I was doubtful I'd use the SDcard reader, but it does come in handy. The only downside is that the integrated reader seems to be capped at about 30miB/S in either read or write, even if the card can go faster. Tested on both Windows (with driver installed from dell) and Ubuntu. Fast enough for audio and some video, but definitely not large transfers or games. Filling up a 512gb card with a backup of my files took AGES. I got better performance with a USB SDCard reader. I wish there was a dedicated ethernet port or more USB slots, but removing them seems to be a trend on all laptops this gen except for dedicated gaming laptops. I highly recommend getting a USB-C dock with PD. USB PD specified to 15W but this seems to be for output power. Charging seems to be the same as the dedicated charger when used as a power input with a dock. For games the 780m performs well. Expect the newest titles to run on low/min, but my backlog has a lot of games that run well on medium and high. Good performance when using Proton. Some hiccups occurred on some games when switching desktops, but most got better after a few mesa drivers got released. As for windows: If you re-install, do keep drivers or a USB-ethernet adapter on hand. Windows' generic wifi driver did not work with the installed card, so grab at least that from Dell's website beforehand so you can grab the rest. Microsoft update also pulls graphics drivers that are a bit old, so grab that from AMD as well. Battery lasts a few hours, depending on use-cases or connected USB devices. For the performance, I'd say that is a good trade off, but I keep mine plugged in most of the time unless I am moving between rooms. ... show more

  • Honestly the worst computer I’ve ever bought
CPU: Ryzen 7-8840U Capacity: 16GB Style: 1TB SSD Color: Midnight Blue
This thing has done nothing but cause problems for months. Randomly shuts completely down when not in use then takes forever to turn on. Yesterday I had to force restart and spend 30 minutes trying to get it turned back on. Today it turned on but won’t allow me to log in. Support is barely being helpful at all and takes their sweet time offering any assistance at all. Really should have been better quality to last more than 3 months without all these issues for the price. Bad quality. Bad value. Bad first experience buying Dell. ... show more
