  • The right tool for the job
Before getting this, I was trying to knock my espresso grounds out on the side of the trash or the compost bucket, not only was this kind of gross, it also didn't work very well. I started using a small spatula to scrape out most of the grounds, then rinse the rest with water. I didn't have high hopes for this, but it actually works quite well. A few sharp knocks on the bar gets almost all of the grounds out, then just a few splashes of water will rinse what is left on the filter. I use a lot less water and spend a lot less time cleaning the filter between brewing drinks. There is a pad on the bottom of the bucket to make knocking on it less of a shock. Some advice: It seems to be easier to knock out freshly spent grounds rather than letting them sit. I thought letting the grounds dry after I brewed my last coffee would make them form a puck that would be easier to remove, but it turns out it's much harder that way, and I often ended up knocking out the metal filter. $32 seems a little pricey for what is essentially a metal bucket, but usually the specialized tool is the right tool for the job. And anyway, you just spent hundreds on a new espresso maker. ... show more

  • Nice looking.
I love it but that black bar gets dented.

  • Looks great next to my coffee machine!
It's a knock box, so my review is far from technical. It looks great. It has a polished finish so it's super easy to clean (although to properly clean it, you have to take it apart, which takes a few seconds... no big deal), and it has a good capacity... Approximately the same as my coffee grinder.

  • Sturdy
The container was bigger then I thought but it's perfect 1 to 2 taps and the compacted grounds come right out. Keeps everything contained until ready to dump.

  • Essential accessory
I've owned a home espresso maker for years, but finally got around to buying a knock box recently. I wish I'd realized how useful it is years ago. Obviously it's designed to make it easy to clean out the grounds without making a mess after each brew, but I discovered that it not only saves time but also makes it easy to keep the grounds for gardening or compost. The size is perfect for a home machine and I especially like the functionality of the sturdy rubber bar as well as the fact that one side is higher than the other to avoid splatter. It cleans up easily too. I'm very glad that I got it. ... show more

  • Exactly what I needed!
Built to take a beating. Holds a lot of used coffee pucks. Easy to dump, and easy to rinse and wash.

  • Solid, well made knock box that usually catches the puck.
Who needs a knock box? I have a heavy kitchen garbage bin that has a plastic liner, and I would whack the portafilter on the liner. But the insert came out a couple of times and I decided that it could be painfully messy to get the insert out of a pile of wet garbage. This knock box is heavy enough that it doesn't move around when you knock the old puck or ese pod out of the portafilter. It usually, but not always cleanly catches the puck. That is its one failing. About one in five pucks does not all fall into the bin. I picked this box because it looked heavy in the photos, and they didn't lie. It has a nonskid rubber base that helps absorb the sound. The bar is well padded, and has not marked the holder. ... show more

  • Worth Every Penny
Perfect size, will hold enough to get you through the week without dumping. The bar is held on either side by a bolt, so you can remove it for cleaning with no tools. Solid construction, easily takes the beating it sometimes takes to get your grounds out. I am so glad I got one, now I can use my espresso machine and not risk scraping the filter or having it pop out. Sure, you can get by without the $30 knock box but think about how much you just spent on a Delonghi espresso machineโ€ฆ and this looks a lot better on your counter than a Tupperware container. ... show more
