  • Awesome Machine
Color: Red Pattern Name: Machine
Works like a charm. Greatest tasting coffee. It even pressures through finely ground (Turkish) coffee with ease. It's the best we've had at a very reasonable price.

  • 3 Years in, Still Going Strong
Color: Black Pattern Name: Machine
I bought this little guy in 2018, and as I made my coffee this morning, I thought I should review it now that I've had plenty of experience using it. I chose this espresso machine based on the size, price, and functionality. I wanted a good latte, I didn't have a ton of counter space, and my sister had this one and liked it. Here are my thoughts 3 years in: Pros: - It's still working! I have had nothing break, need repair, or stop working in the 3 years I've been using this machine - I'm not exactly a coffee snob, but to me, this makes a great latte. Freshly ground beans, 2 shots, and 6 oz of barista blend oat milk is as good or better to me than what I can get at most coffee shops. - It's quick. I like the ritual of making a latte somewhat manually vs. using something like a Nespresso, but this is still quick enough that I can make one most mornings without it being too tedious. - It's nice looking. I like that it doesn't take up much space, and it looks attractive in our coffee bar area. Cons: - The on/off button has gotten jammed twice. It was easily and quickly fixed by sliding a butter knife into the crack between the button and the base. - A few times when I've bought ground espresso vs grinding my own, a single ground has gotten through the metal "mesh" screen and clogged the spot where the espresso drips down into the cup. As soon as I notice that it's not flowing as it should, I just stop the machine, pull the little metal screen off, and rinse with water until the ground breaks free. Easy fix and not a machine problem, but something to note. - It steams and froths very well, but to me, it doesn't seem to make the extremely fine microfoam that an upgraded machine can. That also might just be due to my choice of milk. Either way, it's not a big enough deal that I would ever switch because of it. If you're on the fence about this one, I say do it! I've been making lattes with it nearly every day for the last few years and it's working just like the day I bought it. ... show more

  • Caution before using
Color: Black Pattern Name: Machine
OK, I am not going to talk about the performance of the machine, the espresso it makes is plenty good for me, and I enjoy its speed of preparation and relative ease for getting rid of the grounds. Tjhis is actually my fourth Dedica by deLonghi. Issues, i have three major ones: 1. Do not put the ground holder in your dishwasher, I have a Bosch and after first wash the chrome came right off the holder plus I had to scrub the black sooty residue left by the dishwasher detergent (most likely cause of the problem) 2. I tried to use the descaler provided and followed the directions provided explicitly, unfortunately, the steam light which indicates the need for descaling did not go off, and that happened to two of my machines. 3. the reason I got so many machines besides having two separate residences, is that I used the plug provided to tamp down the espresso grounds into the holder. Big mistake, the pump labored and very little espresso came out and the machine was working for quite a while. Eventually one of the machines essentially died on me, it just did not seem to have any power. One day I was too busy to tamp down the grounds, and the machine worked perfectly and fast, that's when I realized that tamping down the grounds should be a NO NO. Unfortunately deLonghi does not say anything, then why provide a tampon to tamp down the grounds??? Anyhoo, the last machine works perfectly and I stopped using the tampon to tamp the grounds into the holder, when time comes to descale, I'll just pop some vinegar into the tank and run it through its paces, rinse well and live with the idiotic flashing steam indicator. bottom line I recommend the machine, but careful about placing the holder in a dishwasher, don't tamp the grounds, and ignore the stupid flashing steam indicator, just periodically run a few cups with water spiked with some white vinegar. ... show more

  • A nice step up...
Color: Black Pattern Name: Machine
I have used an inexpensive Mr. Coffee ECM150 for many many years - replacing with progressively more difficult-to-find used units every few years. While I realize that the ECM does not make "real" espresso, It seems that just about every pump espresso machine has mixed reviews, including the Dedica, and I could spend a lot of money on a machine that I did not like any better. Then, I decided to take a chance when I found that the "like new - used" EC680 was only $150! I love my Dedica! I love that the brewing temperature and shot sizes are adjustable. I love the quality of the shot. So far, so good. One thing I do not love is the small filter baskets. Even the double shot basket holds barely enough coffee for a full 2 oz rich espresso. I ended up purchasing a second portafilter to modify. Turns out my old ECM unpressurized filter baskets fit this porta when the plastic insert is removed. So now I have set my "single shot" button to make a 2-3 oz "double" using the original sump and pressurized filter and my "double" shot button to make a 5-6 oz triple/quad/lungo shot using the new sump and unpressurized basket Another thing I do not love is how foamy the milk gets when steaming, but not enough to bother modifying the steaming wand. ... show more
