  • Works great
Color: Warm White
They were great and are very beautiful. I hung them on my daughter’s curtains and they really lit up the room. It’d be nice if they had alittle darker modeso it’s a soft glow, but as they are right now they’re beautiful.

  • Very nice lights . . . but not "smart" lights as described
Color: RGB (Red, Green, Blue)
The media could not be loaded. I bought four sets of these RGB LED curtain lights at a big pre-Black Friday early discount. The LED lights themselves are exceptionally bright, the colors are pure, and the preprogrammed color change routines are mostly pretty good (several did not work properly for some reason -- only illuminating the lower half of the curtains) -- and some have more available "options" than others . . . a few are brightness only (1 option), some are brightness plus speed of color transitions (2 options), some are brightness, speed of color transitions, and speed of effects (3 options). Although described in part as “Smart Window Lights,” however, these curtains are NOT “smart” . . . a definite disappointment, and the primary reason for the 1-star downgrade. Why not “smart”? Because these lights come only with Bluetooth connectivity (and may also be controlled using the included remote). The Surplife app that controls these lights is reasonably decent, but the so-called "smart" features are only accessible when connected to WiFi-enabled LED lights. Although the remote is quite functional it is not discreet; in other words, when you have multiple sets of lights as I do, the remote cannot address each set independently, it controls whatever lights are within range of the remote – if two or more sets are plugged in in close proximity to each other, the remote will operate them all at the same time (this could be a good thing or a big inconvenience). Using the app will allow two or more sets to be controlled independently of the others, and two or more sets of lights may be assigned to “rooms” and/or “grouped” as desired so that the colors or preprogrammed routines (“effects”) can be run individually or synced across multiple sets of lights. In the video, I have two sets of lights assigned to two different groups (one in front of the garage, the other in front of the other half of the home. A feature called “carousel” allows you to create a list of the available “effects” that will play for whatever amount of time you choose (the default is 30 seconds) and then rotate to the next effect in the list. When I set up the original two “groups” of two sets of lights I thought I could make two different “carousels,” but you cannot set up multiple “carousels” – the carousel runs across each group when you choose to “play” it, but the starting time for each group’s carousel will be slightly different based on when you click the “Play” button for each group. (I subsequently regrouped the four sets into a single group so that transitions do not lag as you see in the video.) The major drawback to Bluetooth is distance from transmitter to the receiver. My bedroom is in the SW corner of the home and the distance to the receivers for the group in front of my garage door at the NW corner of the home is about farther than the Bluetooth range for the app on my phone, so I have to go outside to connect in order to alter the display or initiate a "carousel" of transitions. I also can't use the music sync feature for the same reason (music can be uploaded from a PC to the app and played through Bluetooth speakers, but distance is the limiting factor compared to WiFi) – the app does run in the background, so I don’t think it would interfere with making calls. If there were a Windows app that I could run from a PC using Bluetooth, I could perhaps place one of my available laptops midway between the two "groups" I have put up up across the front of my home to be able to control them all from a single access point and could set up one or more speakers to play music through – it doesn’t make much sense to sync the lights to music if you cannot hear the music. Built-in (or an optional upgrade to) WiFi communications would definitely be a major improvement. The app includes a variety of preprogrammed routines (called “effects”). The preprogrammed effects’ names are not entirely intuitive. There is also a way to create custom lighting “effects”, but the instructions are not very clear as to the process or what the effect selections – such as “synchronized breathing” vs “asynchronous breathing” – actually do . . . and it’s definitely inconvenient in my case to have to go outside to view the results (and obviously not easy during daylight hours), so building an effects previewer into the app is definitely a needed upgrade. This is so troublesome, I’m not going to take the time to try to create my own effects. The instructions for using the app itself are not highly detailed, and the app is not as intuitive as it could be, but the more I play around with it, the more comfortable I am getting with it. The lights themselves are very responsive to pairing with the app -- I had no difficulty pairing the four sets of curtain lights initially – they were each recognized as soon as I plugged them in one at a time to test functionality. But the second night, although the lights came on at the time I had set in the app, the carousel does not start automatically as I expected – so if you are not around, apparently the last effect before the lights went off will be the one they turn on to. When I started each carousel, I discovered that one set of lights in each group had lost Bluetooth connection to my phone, and would not reconnect. However, as soon as I unplugged and replugged the lights, connectivity was restored. But this is also an inconvenience for me since the lights are not all plugged into the same circuit or extension cord. I would have liked to give the lights and the app a 5-star review, but it’s just not possible. 4-stars may also be a bit generous, but I’m not going to go lower because when they work as expected, they are rather beautiful. We received several comments from our neighbors the first night they were up. FYI -- the 10 vertical strings of LEDs in a set are spaced about 12-3/4" apart and the power cable is more than 10 feet long to the first string of LEDs. I used 1" cup hooks from The Home Depot to hang them (package of 50 hooks for under $7). You can screw the hooks in 1/2" PVC pipe instead of trying to screw them into stucco or wood and use the pipe like a curtain rod. ... show more
