  • Placement is Key
I like the equipment. It's kind of hard to tell it's working except that it gets warm. After a while the air in the room does feel less damp. The casing for this one was loose but not enough to send it back; it appears to be working fine. It's important to find a place for it in the home and leave it there. ... show more

  • Keyboard Saver!
I have a very expensive Yamaha keyboard that I purchased about two years ago which started acting up earlier this year. Some of the keys when pressed were quite a bit louder than the rest of the keys and one of the keys were sitting lower than all of the others. After having gone to the Yamaha forum site, it was suggested that perhaps the rubber contacts and or the keys themselves were broken. When I contacted Yamaha, they offered the same suggestions and that I should take the keyboard to a local authorized service center for evaluation and repair. Unfortunately living in such a small island of Kauai there are NO authorized Yamaha service repair centers here and I would have to ship the unit to either Oahu (Honolulu) or back to Yamaha themselves in California. The problem is that the unit is bulky as well as heavy which meant that the shipping cost alone would be around $60.00-$80.00 one way. After reading some of the reviews about service centers not doing the job properly and keyboards coming back in either worse condition or the repairs not being done correctly, I was leery about having to send the unit multiple times at my expense. I decided to repair the unit myself and ordered the rubber contacts as suggested (the whole set), plus some white keys in case I needed it. Yamaha themselves were reluctant on giving specifics on the problem which they said could be something more. I repaired the unit by replacing all of the rubber contacts and it seemed to have worked for a few days and then ... the SAME exact problem. How frustrating is that! Just think what would have happened if I had sent the unit to a repair center? I would have been out about $160.00 in shipping cost plus repair and would have had to send it back and more shipping costs. A few days of sitting around and turning the unit on and off a few times, I discovered that the problem were intermittent. Then finally it dawned on me that it may be the humidity that was causing the problem. I purchased a humidity meter and sure enough when the humidity reached above 68%, the keyboard started acting up. I contacted Yamaha service center one more time, they suggested that one of the circuit boards may be corroded and so I ordered one. During this waiting period I debated whether to buy an air conditioner and or a heater which would have been too costly to operate. Then I stumbled upon this Davis unit while browsing the Amazon site. WHAT A LIFE SAVER! Problem solved! At the cost of operating a 70 watt light bulb, it was an inexpensive solution. It's been approximately a month now and it still working like a champ, and I only turn it on when the humidity reaches 65% or over which is usually during a rainy period ... another discovery. ... show more

  • Barely adequate but did the job
I live fulltime in an RV and needed something to put in my outside access storage space to keep it above freezing. The space is probably 150 cu ft or so and the temps got down to the lower 20's for a couple months and the Air-Dryr kept the space at 35-36 degrees so it did what it needed to do. Granted, the storage space has opening doors on each side of the RV and neither door is well insulated so the fact that it never froze is testament in itself. The heater has no fan so is convection heat only but uses almost no power and because the surface doesn't get hot it is safe to use in an enclosed space. If I had it to do again I would order the Air-Dryr 1000 instead giving me a little more reserve if temps turned even colder but the heater itself worked very well, was safe, and I recommend it for small spaces like closets to keep the humidity and mold at bay. ... show more

  • Great for travel trailer!
This keeps my trailer dry and at a constant low temp inside. And no dumping buckets of water!

  • Might be too early to tell
I have a friend that swears by this product. She uses them in her closets. I have a very small apartment and plugged it in my living room. I live in the south where the dampness and humidity are crazy. I haven't noticed any difference but in all fairness, the area might not be small enough and I only plugged it in 24 hours ago so might be too early to tell. Very light weight, just plug it in. It gets pretty warm but not so much that I can't touch it. Wish me luck! Update *** I moved it into the bedroom and it's definitely helped. Next time I'll order the more powerful 1000 model versus this the 500. Will buy again! Update to my update! It just stopped working. I mean it doesn’t come on at all. Ugh. ... show more

  • Good amount of heat, but still touchable.
I have searched for quite some time to find something in the 50w to 150w power range and always came up short. I've purchased "heating rods", which just couldn't get the job done at around 25W. Then I tried the Heat Bud with 170W low and 250W high rating, which did the job, but at the cost of a buzzing fan when on. I'm happy with this purchase, although I haven't tested it with real cold temperatures yet. If there is one improvement that could be made I would love to see a slightly higher wattage (100W or so). Will the 70W fall short when it gets colder I will gladly buy a second one. ... show more

  • Works well
We've bought several of these for 2 cabins, 2 cars, and 1 travel trailer for the wet cold northwest winters when we leave for 5 months and they worked to prevent moisture from accumulating. The first year we left our car over the winter without this device and returned in the spring to find white mold covering the dashboard! Since we began leaving the unit inside the car its been fine. We locate the larger size unit on the floor of our 26 foot travel trailer where water lines froze in the past and it has protected for 10 winters. We do leave an additional small fan running in the bath area to keep the air moving there. Happy as we can leave them on floor with no worries about tipping over etc. ... show more

  • good product does the job.
Just got this gizmo and put it in place. I was having mold starting on the far edge of my bedroom slide out. I have a larger one in the front room and it does the job only problem there is the cats think it is a good place to warm up, I discourage that. The little one fits perfectly in the space I wanted it for and seems to be doing the job. I would recommend this product. ... show more
