    • 80s influenced pop metal?????
Delain is a newer addition to my catalog of great female led symphonic metal bands. I have heard in my time with them, quite a few styles within their songwriting. Before this album I always thought they sounded much like old school nightwish with a more contemporary sounding singer...I don't believe this anymore. The new singer is awesome and fits the music to perfection...she however sounds very similar to Charlotte. This is not a bad thing, as the vocalist has a consistent sound...the music however has evolved. Let me explain... Before I thought delain sounded like a second version of nightwish while just changing the vocal style, but I feel that they have really found their "sound" now. There are many many symphonic elements still in play...even a few songs that still remind me of older material, largely "the quest and the curse", and "invictus" (btw AWESOME to hear marko hietala doing his magic in it...brings me back). The rest involve symphonic elements but ring more towards 80s pop metal if that makes any sense. I know fans are divided by this change but I like it. What we have here are many elements of symphonic metal married with 80s sounds that are catchy as anything that comes out these days...but with substance and nuance. If I were to give one criticism, let's think about a roller coaster. So you go down the first hill and you have all that thrill and adrenaline pumping....then you go up the next hill and all that excitement begins again. This album is like going down the first hill but never coming back up. What I mean is that there is no slow...or even mid-paced song on here to "reset". It is 100% energy through the whole album....but is is good...really good, but for me a "masterpiece" has multiple songwriting element, which this is all energy and catchiness throughout the album. It does have some softer moments built within the songs though and that is what still pushes me to 5 stars even though masterpiece isn't the right word in my opinion. In the end this is full of energy, catchy lyrics and melodies, and enough substance to make it great. I can't get enough of it and I don't think you will either, just enjoy it...this isn't great for disection, but is a GREAT listen...or 100. ... show more

    • Best Album I Have Heard in Years
This is what I consider to be a "perfect" album. One that has every song so enjoyable that I do not skip any when they come up. That is something only accomplished by every song being at least 4 out of 5 stars for me. Not every one is a 5/5 or 4/5, and you can tell, but as a complete album this is the best I have personally heard in a very long time as someone who has listened to hundreds of artists and over 10,000 songs. The only determining factor ought to be if this genre is the right one for you. If it is, show them your support and pick this one up. ... show more

This was a really good good album. There wasn't a single bad track on it. Diana Leah has a really sweet and pleasant voice. I found the album started good and got even better as it went on. You even get an extra disc with all the instrumentals. I'm really looking forward to what comes next from this band. Some standout tracks for me were Moth to a flame and Underland. ... show more

    • New Delain lineup, no problem, still just as good as ever
While I'll miss Charlotte, Diana is excellent on vocals herself. I worry when a band changes as much as Delain did, especially the singer, but this album is just as good as past Delain albums.
