  • but lack that "little extra" to make it superior rating.

Rating above average. They have improved the tonal quality on my Soprano, but lack that "little extra" to make it superior rating.

  • Best reeds for both soprano sax and Eb sopranino clarinet
Size: Strength 3.0
I like the flexibility and ease of play for Hemke reeds. I recently found that I can also use this exact same reed on my Eb sopranino clarinet. Works great especially in upper ranges.

  • Great reeds!
Size: Strength 3.5
I’ve used these reeds for 30 years. For me they play right out of the box. I can play a four hour gig with no warm up. The quality is great!

  • They used to be good
Size: Strength 2.5
This used to be a consistently excellent reed, beautiful tone, great response, most reeds good out of the box… but the quality fell off late last year. They are noticeably less dense, the cut is uneven, the wood feels cheap and even chips easily, and when I play them the tone is dull. The new reeds are stamped on the top, like in this picture. The old reeds, which were great, were stamped on the opposite side. I still have a few old reeds, and the difference is night and day. I’ve been playing 27 years, and I’ve played enough reeds to know how important a quality reed is. Save your money and look elsewhere ... show more

Played well right out of the box, no need to work the reed

  • Hemkee reeds are good with nice tone and intonation.
Size: Strength 4.0
Thanks a lot to Amazon for the very prompt service! Ordering from India could not have been easier. I'm a basic sax learner. Hemkee 4 reed for soprano is great! I had previously bought size 3 and that was too soft. 4 works just fine. Hemkees seem to be on the softer side, great tone and flexibility, but may not be the one for longer performances. Certainly pleasant and won't be disappointing for anyone. ... show more
