  • Impressive performance
Capacity: 500GB
I purchased this Crucial MX 500 SSD after a disappointing purchase and subsequent return of a Samsung 870 EVO SSD from another Amazon retailer. After a painfully long wait for the Samsung, the retailer sent me a used drive that had corrupt sectors which was discovered after a failed attempt to transfer the OS and subsequent drive health check. Needless to say I returned the Samsung and opted for a full refund. The Crucial drive was received quickly and arrived with a sealed inner pack so I was assured that it was new. I originally ordered this drive to replace a mechanical drive on an HP Paviion g6 laptop that was taking over 7 minutes to boot and become fully operational. Initially I tried to copy the original Widows 10 files but unfortunately some files were corrupted despite my attempts to repair them prior to transfer. Due to the Widows10 file corruption, I opted to load Windows 10 from a product USB and the process was extremely easy. The MX 500 accepted the files without any issues. After removing and replacing the existing hard drive, I experienced boot times to fully operational in approximately 1:30 minutes. Not lightening fast but a great improvement over the mechanical drive. Bottom line, the Crucial MX 500 performs flawlessly and appears to be a solid quality drive. Additionally, Crucial has partnered with Acronis and offers a free version of it's backup application to assist in the transfer of the original files to the new SSD. I would not hesitate to purchase another Crucial drive when upgrading any laptop or desktop in the future. ... show more

  • Extremely compelling for anyone looking to supercharge their storage game on a reasonable budget
Capacity: 2TB
As someone who deals with data storage and backups on a daily basis, I've become a big fan of Crucial's MX500 SSD lineup. The 2TB model in particular has proven to be an incredibly versatile and affordable solution. On a pure price-per-gigabyte basis, these SATA drives absolutely demolish traditional spinning platter HDDs when you need this much capacity. But beyond just sheer volume, the MX500's solid state design brings plenty of other benefits to the table. Performance, for starters, is light years better than HDDs. The NAND flash memory and lack of moving parts allow rapid access times and data throughput speeds. Booting OSes, loading apps, transferring large media files - everything happens in a blink compared to sluggish HDDs. It makes the whole system feel tremendously more responsive. Reliability is another big plus over HDDs, which are prone to potential failures from physical shocks, vibrations, or just general wear and tear over time. With no moving parts, SSDs like the MX500 operate silently and can better withstand drops, bumps, or other turbulence. They also run much cooler with less thermal throttling concerns. For my use cases, I have a couple of these 2TB SSDs set up as redundant backup repositories for my home NAS system. The combination of speed, durability, and high capacity makes them perfect for regularly syncing and safely archiving all my important documents, photos, videos and other media. I've also shucked a couple of these bad boys and popped them into various devices like my HTPC for super fast media playback and game load times. Or random Raspberry Pi rigs for snappy SDC-based storage without breaking the bank. ... show more

  • It's like I have a new PC
Capacity: 1TB
My 7 year old desktop PC, Windows 11 with a 1 TB HDD (no bad sectors), was taking minute(s) to display the lock screen from boot or wake up. And minute(s) to bring up the password screen and then minute(s) to display the Desktop and get the Startup apps running so you could do work without delays (I blame Windows 11 for this). I say minute(s) because this process could be quick or slow. There was no rhyme or reason as to why this varied so much. The installation instructions are clear and with the free Acronis True Image for Crucial cloning software from Crutial's web site, and a SATA to USB, and 2.5 to 3.5 adapter that I needed, the transition went smoothly (be patient with Acronis software that you install on the old drive. It clocks between steps without saying what it is doing, GRRR, I hate not knowing what's going on ;-) ) (BTW the Acronis software is smart. It won't work if there isn't a Crutial device attached either internally or through an USB. I know, I tired on other machines) I was amazed how fast the boot was when I finished swapping the Crutial SSD for my old HDD. Everything is practically instantaneous!!! Web pages are loading faster and Apps needing the SSD storage are running faster. I'm a happy camper with this upgrade. ... show more

  • Snappy SSD for older Laptops.
Capacity: 1TB
Double-protected packaging, and really speeds-up an older Laptop. [Just use GNU/Linux clonezilla to clone the old HDD's partitions/contents, after installing the new SSD "in" the laptop. Connect to old HDD via a SATA to USB adapter cable. Easy-peasy; 15 minues... consult your local PC Expert]
