  • Great first pen
Color: Black Lacquer Style: Fountain Pen Gift Set
I don't usually write reviews, but this pen made me do it. I got it because I saw videos on the perks of using a fountain pen. I paired it with mont blanc midnight blue, and this pen beat all my expectations. I have been using it for school notes for hours daily, and it writes beautifully. I definitely will recommend it to people if they ask me. As a beginner, I was nervous about filling the converter, but this one was straightforward to do. The only thing I haven't tried yet is cleaning it. Nevertheless, it is a 10/10. ... show more

  • Excellent pen! Not postable, but I'm happier for it
Color: Red Lacquer Style: Rollerball
Can't say enough great things about this pen, but I'll get one thing out of the way to begin: If you absolutely must have a pen that "posts" (i.e., that move where you remove the pen cap and firmly lodge it onto the back of the pen as you write), you will definitely be disappointed in the Cross Bailey. However, if you are someone like me who frequently hands your pen over to strangers for them to sign things, the non-postable cap provides a HUGE advantage: theft deterrence. Think of it this way: When you take your pen from your pocket, remove the cap, and then hand the pen to another person, you are practically guaranteed to receive it back, because (A) virtually no one would accidentally shove an ink pen without a cap into their pocket, and (B) virtually no one would deliberately steal an ink pen that is missing a cap. I did my research and decided that rollerball pens were my pen of choice. I've heard plenty of great things about the Cross brand, and I've had such a fantastic experience with the Cross Bailey line that I've purchased four of them in the last five months, just to have different styles to match to my shirts/neckties. The red lacquer is easily my favorite color finish, and in the past five months I've had countless customers of mine use the pen to sign a document or sales receipt and comment on how well the pen writes . . . including a few people who have asked me if it's a Montblanc. (So far my reply to this inquiry has been, "No, it's a Cross Bailey . . . it writes like a dream and it only set me back 25-30 bucks" and they're dumbfounded.) ... show more

  • A Fire Fighter's Pen.
Color: Lustrous Chrome Style: Fountain Pen, Medium Nib
My last years on the fire department as a fire fighter paramedic, I carried two of the Medalist version of this pen. I used them to write out all my medial reports from EMS runs and on many occasions they stayed in my pocket as I geared up to go fight fire. The pens have been well exposed to smoke, heat, water and toxic chemicals, far beyond what Cross dreamed of when they made this pen. I'm pretty sure they never considered how these pens would hold up to when fighting fire and saving lives. Both pens took everything that I took. The finish was nice, they could easily be decontaminated. Matter of fact they look really good for the wear. I carried them for so long because they worked. Middle of the night on a traffic accident, they wrote well on my gloves. They then wrote the report when I got the patient to the hospital. Nothing stoped my pens. I still have both, they are my treasures. They went where I went and wrote about it every time. Yep. I love them. ... show more

  • Eh.
Color: Black Lacquer Style: Fountain Pen Gift Set
(this is a revised review, after having the thing for a bit) I purchased the starter pack which came with: the pen, a pack of six cartridges, one cartridge converter, and a two ounce bottle of black ink. Not a bad deal, considering it was only about $35. But, there are a few caveats. The ink they give you runs very wet for the nib/feed, and the cap does not post. The latter wouldn't be a big deal if this pen were a bit longer, but it isn't. This is all fine if you only write on business style paper with a cotton content, and only use the pen for a signature at the bottom, which I believe is the intent. The only moderately priced notebook ($5 or less) that would handle this ink, with a medium nib, was a Mead Cambridge. Obviously, you can get a sketchbook with near cardstock pages, but those get a bit pricey. I've found adding a few drops of water to the ink, mixed in a separate vessel, can dilute the surfactants and then it writes much drier. Also, Pelikan 4001 blue-black runs great right out of the bottle. If the cap would post, and I had opted for a fine nib, would be 10/10. ... show more

  • Perfect
Color: Lustrous Chrome Style: Rollerball
The pen is of high quality and is built very well. I have used this pen for a year and it is good as new. The only issue is that it is a fingerprint magnet and the scratches are easily noticeable.
