You do have to pay attention to what direction the blade is pointed and thickness of paper etc. will make a difference in how clean the cut is. This point does NOT rotate so you have to move your hand to create the line you are cutting. These PAPER CUTTING CRAFT UTILITY TOOLS are only effective at cutting paper. They do a decent job for getting to those places you can’t get to with scissors. I’m talking about those inside edges, when you are extracting collage or decoupage material, from magazines or other printed graphics. This is like a smaller eXacto knife, except it only cuts paper. You’ll still want to use scissors when you can, because this tool is for slow, patient, precise cutting. With a ruler it will cut straight lines, as long as the paper isn’t too thick or fibrous (like construction paper). This, combined with a pair of scissors, a small Exacto knife, a metal or plastic ruler, and a self-healing cutting mat, should be all the tools you’ll need for most paper cutting projects from snow flakes to paper dolls, etc. The blade is encased in what, for all practical purposes, is a pen. It opens and closes the blade by clicking the bottom of the pen with your thumb. This works great for safety, protecting both you and the blade, when not in use. It looks just like any ordinary inexpensive pen. That is the only problem I can foresee: anyone seeing this or picking it up will likely think this is a disposable pen that has run out of ink. It is likely to be tossed out by anyone who doesn’t know the secret: it is a cutting tool, perfectly disguised as a pen! Mine came in a pack of 12, so fortunately, if one does get inadvertently tossed out, there’s always a spare. ... show more

These Craft Cutting Paper Pens are a neat concept. Roughly the same size as a standard pen or marker, they contain and small 45 degree cutting blade. Designed to be a freehand cutter. They fit well in hand and are made of what seems to be standard pen style plastic, so they should last for a good while. The cutter blade is designed to rotate it appears. However, the springs inside are rather stiff when new and I found I was having to lift and rotate the pen to use them properly. I would surmise that given time and use the springs would wear down a bit and it would become easier for the heads to rotate. I tried this on craft paper, vinyl and some scrap leather and had no issues cutting any of them. All in all, it's a great little pen if you need a free hand cut. ... show more

My main issue with this is it looks too much like a pen, so I had to put specialty tape on mine to remind me that it was a cutter. These are useful for crafting so you can make small precise cuts. I tried it on 1-4 pages of regular weight paper and it works best on 1 to 2. With card stock I had to push harder to get a neat cut. ... show more

These paper pen cutting tools are good for Vinyl. Sometimes you may get a cut with a letter or number that doesn’t cut through all the way and you can finish it with one of these. You can also use these to help pick up edges and help with weeding. You get six of different colors. They are sharp and feel fine in the hand like a ballpoint pen. It says it is good for paper, but I have not tried that. If it cuts vinyl it should be good for scrapbooking and thin card-stock. I don’t know the longevity of the sharpness.
