  • Good heater.
Style: Heater
This is a great heater, I was worried about placing one in the coop after hearing a few horror stories but once it got into the negatives my girls were obviously cold. I got this 2 years ago and it still works great going into our 3rd winter. I bought one from tractor supply and it went out after one winter. This one is reliable. ... show more

  • Great heater.
Style: Heater
This is my second cozy coop heater. The first one I bought 6 years ago is still in service. We bought cozy coop after our heat lamp started our coop on fire. It was a big scare, but no one hurt. I don't have that fear with this heater. The thermostat always works. It looks like a little tv so my only concern is the girls watching Fox at night! ... show more

  • Company fixed the problem
Style: Heater
REVISED REVIEW: The company sent a replacement that works perfect. This unit is not overly hot or dangerous like the first one I bought. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Please be aware that description is a blatant lie! This product is NOT "safe to touch". It will burn your hand when on "low". This will burn your chickens if they come in contact with it. It will start straw on fire very quickly. My return window has closed or I would be returning this item! ... show more

  • Safe and Effective - but needs better directions
Style: Heater
I hope this review will help purchasers as I've noticed a lot of people don't seem to understand the product. 1. There is no "OFF" switch - once it's plugged in, it's always on. There are two settings - "I" and "II". Obviously "II" is hotter, and it IS a little hot to the touch, especially if you don't have calloused hands. I would guess it's around 130 degrees F. "I" can be touched relatively easily and I would guess it to be around 100 degrees F (like a hot tub). 2. The smaller and more insulated your coop space is, the more effective this heater would be at heating the entire thing. Otherwise, it's only going to heat about a 1-2 foot radius around it. 3. You can use a thermocube to control when the heater comes on and off. Thermocubes come in a variety of different temperature settings so you can pick whatever works for you. 4. This is not truly an outdoor product and it needs to be in a covered space - both the plug and the heater. You can, however, use an outdoor rated extension cord to run it to an exterior outlet if needed. I use it in my coop, which was built off the "Garden Coop" design online. The covered run is approximately 8 feet long x 6 feet wide, and the coop portion is elevated over half the run - about 4 feet tall by 6 feet long by 3 feet wide. It is plywood on both sides of 2x4s, with styrofoam inside to insulate. The roof is completely ventilated with flat hardware cloth under a polycarbonate lean-to style roof. I usually stuff frost cloth in between the hardware cloth and the roof so that it's not too windy in the coop in the winter - but still plenty ventilated. With the Cozy Coop heater on, the temps outside have been in the teens-20s and the coop wifi thermometer, hung approximately 7 inches from the heater (off a roosting bar), is holding at 32 degrees. I have my heater plugged into a thermocube and it goes on at 20 degrees and off at 30 degrees. I hope this helps those who are confused by this product and the mixed reviews! ... show more

  • Much Better Than a Heat Lamp
Style: Heater
The media could not be loaded. I tested the first one I received for a week in the house and noticed it occasionally made a "popping" sound similar to the sound the lid of a mason jar makes when it's cooling down after removing it from the canner- I contacted Cozy Coop and they emailed a shipping label and RMA authorization for the heater and sent a replacement, which I installed in an A-frame tractor coop that is being kept in a Shelterlogic 10x10 shed-in-a-box for the winter. It works great- I'm using a heat mat temperature controller set at 41 degrees and it's kept the coop warm enough while using the 100W setting, with outside temperatures reaching the low teens. I'm sure there will be no problem maintaining 39-41 degrees if there is a sub-zero cold spell in February. The operating cost is probably cheaper than the 60W ceramic coated bulb I was using before, since it doesn't run constantly, and I replaced the 60W with a 7.5W night light bulb. The hens sleep better without the constant bright light and they aren't agitated while waiting for me to drop the ramp. Almost every morning when I check the video feed to see when they're ready to go out, I notice they are purring contentedly. ... show more

  • The girls think this is hot
Style: Heater
Easy install grapefruit for chicken co-op. They really seem like it much better than the red lamp. Bonus it won't burn the coop down.

  • Fire & burn hazard!
Style: Heater
The heater box was taped up after-market so I’m assuming I received someone else’s return? Either way, I opened the box, plugged it in, turned to high and within 5 minutes it was hot enough to burn my hands. Unplugged it, let it cool down all the way and tried it on the low setting and got same result. Thank goodness I tested it before putting in with my girls!! This thing would severely burn anything that it came in contact with if it didn’t first start a fire. Amazon wanted me to send it back and I said I would, but will etch “damaged” on the screen to prevent a tragedy when it was shipped out again. I buy a lot on Amazon and am generally very happy with the service when something isn’t right, which is thankfully not often. So I was a little put off when the rep told me they’d make a one-time exception and allow me to keep [what I would call THEIR liability] as a gift while they returned my money. I decided to open up my “gift” before adding it to the landfill and there it was … it looked like a child assembled it with leftover materials they found in the garbage of an electrician. Literally … clear scotch tape & glue holding wires down, insulation pieced together from scraps, all covered with tin foil and evidence of any/all plastic melting throughout. Shocking, really. I’d stay far away from this particular heater … I’ve got other brands that have worked great for years with no issues — this isn’t that!! ... show more
