  • and made the compatibility with Word (a far inferior program) far better. For my money
Platform For Display: PC Disc Edition: Standard Upgrade
With X9 Corel has brought back several features they had discontinued for unknown reasons, and made the compatibility with Word (a far inferior program) far better. For my money, "reveal codes" and the flawless, effortless handling of images, plus many other features, puts Word.to shame. I was forced to use Word because of Microsoft's pushing it into the dominant wordprocessor and a few flaws in the more recent editions of WordPerfect, but now with X9 that has been resolved and I am so relieved to be back to WordPerfect. Thank you, Corel! ... show more

  • WP Office X9 Upgrade Worth it for me
Platform For Display: PC Disc Edition: Standard Upgrade
It is an understatement to say that I am a diehard WordPerfect user. I started using it on DOS! I was thrilled to upgrade to the Windows version when it was first released (decades ago). I’m running on Win 10 now. Likewise I am a big fan of Quattro Pro (which I’ve used since it was a separate program owned by Borland). I try to upgrade WP Office (and all programs) infrequently and only when I see a new feature I feel I can’t live without OR when I worry the version is getting too old to work reliably with the operating system. I’d rather upgrade at a time of my choosing than wait for the program to break and crash due to incompatibility. That said, this was an upgrade of WP Office from version X5 to X9 with some new features - Corel’s website has info showing what’s new in X9. WP Office X9 Standard does everything I need done. YMMV. Lots of others use Microsoft’s Word and Excel. I use them (reluctantly) when I must. Most of the time, I just do my writing in WordPerfect, then convert the file to Word before sending it to others (who insist on a Word file). WP handles file conversions easily. Both ways: WP to Word and Word to WP. Just change the file type when you open or save the file. Easy. My documents don’t use advanced features l, but I do quite a bit of formatting and the file conversions work well for me with minimal (if any cleanup). After installing the upgrade to X9, I noticed only one problem which was easily corrected - my documents were opening v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y. Too slowly to be tolerable. Evidently, in installing the update, WP got confused about where documents are stored. I corrected the default directory for storing and retrieving documents and now the files open quickly (as before). ... show more

Very poor on business cards and labels. Must enter data on each segment. No improvement from earlier versions. Liked all the new graphics

  • Mistake to upgrade to X9
Platform For Display: PC Disc Edition: Standard Upgrade
I have used WordPerfect for many, many years and it has been a excellent program. However, this "upgrade" sucks. Its answer to many things you try to do that were easy and straightforward in early versions, is to simply shut the program down. For example, I have long used the table function within WordPerfect but now if I try to delete a row from a table it won't delete it and it shuts the program down. Basically the program appears to be very unstable which makes it unpredictable which makes it almost unusable. If it worked, it would be great. But since it doesn't work, it sucks. Don't buy it or upgrade unless they fix it. ... show more

  • A Big Improvement Over Previous Versions
Platform For Display: PC Disc Edition: Standard Upgrade
This version of Core Word Perfect is a vast improvement of previous versions. It addresses and solves a problem that has vexed users for years. It particularly affected my work, as I draft and compose legal documents, prefer Corel (I have been working with Corel almost since its inception), and work in the legal field in which Word is predominately used. It just to be that the world was divided between users who preferred Corel Word Perfect and those who preferred Word. These word processing systems reflected this divide. Whenever a user wanted to copy and paste a document from one system to the other, the end result would usually be a mess. Document codes would remain embedded in the document would cause the transferred document to look strange. Margins would be off, sentences would end and begin on different positions on the line, the fonts sometime would change sometimes at will. Documents transferred from Word to Corel seemed to be especially susceptible. The problem was more pronounced in legal complaints, motions, or any document requiring pleading paper. The line separating the line numbers to the extreme left hand side of the page, once transferred to Corel, or vice versa, would somehow move to middle of the page or beyond. The later versions of Corel gradually improved, ever so slowly, in alleviating this problem. It was not entirely fixed. That is, until X9, this version here, was inaugurated. The big innovation of X9 is that documents in Corel or Word can now be used, copied, copied and pasted, or transferred interchangeably. Saving or copying and pasting a Word document into Corel will produce a virtual replica of the original, without any noticeable changes or involuntary modifications. The big improvement is in the transfer of documents formatted on pleading paper. Legal documents transfer to and from Corel and Word seamlessly, without the result being a jumbled mess. For professionals working in the legal field this version of Corel is a godsend. ... show more

  • Good upgrade to a good program
Platform For Display: PC Disc Edition: Standard Upgrade
I have used WordPerfect for decades in preference to Word. Far more user friendly, especially because of the Reveal Codes feature. I hate the bloated documents that Word creates and have to strip out way too much code whenever I convert from Word to WP. I use Libre Office in preference to Word when I have to go there. Free program and has everything that Word has. The only problem I noticed was that my special characters didn't properly update, but I think that was because I kept my old WP7 on the computer. I ran a repair install and worked perfectly. Tech support took a couple days to get back to me on my issue, by which time I had figured it out. ... show more

  • Problem With X9 Program Constantly Backing Up A Document While Typing It
Platform For Display: PC Disc Edition: Standard Upgrade
I've been working on a long document, and every 5 minutes or so, I am forced to stop while the program automatically backs up the document. Also, when I save the document and later come back to work on it, some of the text has sometimes shifted out of place (e.g., captions under a photo). This is all very irritating! ... show more
