    • A couple of minor issues but impressive performance

The media could not be loaded. The biggest challenge I could offer this wrench at this time was loosening lug nuts on my car which I always torque to 78 ft-lbs during wheel installation, using a torque wrench of course not an impact wrench. I didn't think they'd prove difficult but I also didn't expect this impact wrench to whip them off with so little effort (see video). The tool is hefty, but not burdensomely heavy, and the grip comfortable. A lot of power is packed into this manageable tool. The kit includes four impact sockets with retention pins and O-rings. The anvil also has a friction ring (aka hog ring) for socket retention but the ring doesn’t provide very strong retention even brand new. While light retention is good for ease of socket changes as the ring wears it may not provide adequate socket retention or stability. However the anvil does have a hole to accommodate retention pins so that is an option. Note, the retention pins with the included sockets are too long so you’ll need to cut them to the correct length if you choose to use them. Included documentation, which is minimal, discusses use of a detent pin but the anvil on this tool doesn’t have a detent pin. On the tool’s lower front, just above the battery, you’ll find LED indicators for battery charge and speed range settings. You must depress the trigger slightly to activate the display after which you can cycle through speed ranges by pushing the red button, marked with a power symbol although it doesn’t switch power. None of this is addressed in the included documentation. It isn’t clear how you would go about getting extra or replacement batteries. None were listed at the X-YEAH Amazon store and I don’t know if any third party batteries are compatible. The kit comes in a decent quality storage case. I’m giving this kit 5 stars with the value offered in mind not because I think it is directly comparable to top of the line name brand impact wrench kits.     • Excellent value impact wrench for home/amateur mechanics.

If you've ever worked on cars, trucks, RVs, trailers or other equipment, impact wrenches qualify as one of those "nice to have" tools. While they're great for specific jobs (removing or tightening multiple nuts/bolts of the same size, like tire lug nuts) significant cost and the need for air compressors are hard to justify. That's changed significantly with battery-driven impact wrenches, including the X-YEAH 20V Cordless 1/2 inch Impact Wrench Kit offered on Amazon Vine that I recently received. The X-YEAH wrench, charger, two 21V batteries and a handful of metric sockets (19mm, 20mm, 21mm, 22mm) arrived packed in a durable plastic case. The wrench looks and feels substantial but is light enough to use comfortably. The batteries charged quickly and without any issues. I used the wrench and sockets to loosen and retighten lug nuts on our car and it performed flawlessly. At just $74.99, what's not to like? Well, a couple of things. First, while X-YEAH notes that the the wrench is capable of delivering up to 406 foot pounds of torque, it doesn't offer a way to measure torque settings. Instead, the wrench provides a variable speed trigger and three speed options (0-1,000/0-2,000/0-3,500RPM), with up to 4,200 impacts per minute. In other words, while the X-YEAH wrench should word well generally and for loosening stubborn or rusted bolts, it's not a solution for torquing nuts and bolts to specific settings. Moreover, it's easy to imagine how an inexperienced user might overtighten, strip or even break nuts and bolts with the wrench. Additionally, the wrench's reliance on friction ring sockets won't be to everyone's taste, and the included pins/O-rings affixing sockets to the wrench are fiddly to use. Finally, like many other China-based tool makers, X-YEAH's batteries and chargers aren't compatible with other brands. That's not a deal breaker and, after all, the same can be said for U.S. based tool makers. But unless you buy other X-YEAH products, it might contribute to workshop clutter. Beyond those points, the the X-YEAH 20V Cordless 1/2 inch Impact Wrench Kit is a well-built tool and an excellent value for home and amateur mechanics.
