Solar lights have really come quite a long way. This not only puts out plenty of light, the quality of the light is pleasing - you really no longer need to settle for a weird dim blue-tinged option that is somehow too bright to look at directly but simultaneously not casting enough light to see by. This looks exactly like a normal light, which is what you want. On the lowest light setting, this thing puts out plenty of light to easily see my mailbox, including whatever festive holiday adornments we might have put on it at the moment. And even in the dead of winter with very few daylight hours to charge by, this thing soaks up enough photons to stay illuminated from dusk till ‘past my bedtime’. I haven’t timed it, but when I take the dog out for the final piddle of the evening, it’s still on. In terms of gripes - this does not seem to be user-serviceable. This is a shame as I have eked extra YEARS of life out of solar lights like this before by cracking them open and replacing the rechargeable batteries - and sometimes even just taking those batteries out and reconditioning them on a good lithium-ion battery charger. I can see some screws here holding the LED panel down to the body, but it’s under a plastic lens that seems to be glued down. I’m not sure that opening this up is possible without partially destroying it. I know it’s cheap enough to just replace when it’s no longer holding a charge, but I generally don’t like to operate that way. In any case - this does what it’s supposed to and I’m pleased with it. However - Manufacturers - if you are reading this - please let me change the batteries on these things so I don’t have to throw them out prematurely! ... show more

I have obtained a variety of these types of lights over the years. They have steadily improved in all areas. These lights are the best I have obtained so far. They are built well and I expect they will last many years as a result. They have three light settings and a relatively large solar panel. The highest light setting puts out a very bright light. I have put them around my pool to illuminte where the adjacent sidewalks are located and where the edges of the pool are. They do that job very well, curing a problem of a dark and dangerous location. They have the option of tilting the light so that it shines somewhat downward so that a person approaching the light is not blinded by it. That is a feature in not many of these types of lights and is certainly a positive one. The one minor downside to the versitility of the light being able to be repositioned is that the light panel is attached to the solar panel, so changing one changes the other. You might find that where point the light panel will in part be determined by the best positioning of the solar panel to get the most sunshine possible. These lights charge well even on cloudy days probably because of the size of the solar panel. These lights also have the option of being mounted on a wall or fence with the mounting hardware being supplied with the lights. A good buy from all aspects. ... show more

I like that you can direct the light where it's needed. I put these on a footpath and they were still working after midnight on the first night using the middle brightness setting. The amount of light output is enough for this application. The instructions seem to say that it's best to let them have a one or two days in the daylight before turning them on. I did that but I wasn't sure whether they were working when I first got them. Then I discovered that to test them, if you cover the solar panel during daylight the light will come on. I used the middle-light setting thinking that it would be a good compromise between light output and number of hours they are lit up. According to the listing, these will stay on for 18hrs on that setting. However, after a week of having some of these in the ground during winter, these were off by midnight. I expect that's because, although they are in daylight, they don't receive direct sun. I imaging that would be different in summertime. I dropped a star for that. BTW... the switch on the back cycles through OFF, then brightnesses 1, 2, and 3, back to OFF again. ... show more

I've use similar products in the past and this one appears to be first rate. They came charged, so when I switched them on and covered the array, they lit up. Many solar products require a couple of days before even turning them on. While the instruction manual did say to give it a couple of days to reach peak performance, the performance right out of the box has been impressive. These have many very bright LEDs and put out a lot of light. Obviously, the battery charge is drained the fastest on the brightest setting, but on that mode, they have lasted until bed time (11 pm) after only being charged from noon till sundown (5:30 pm) today. The 3 brightness settings allow for a variety of uses. Even the lowest brightness setting should be more than adequate for marking walkways or paths. The only downside with these is the lights and solar array are part of same structure, and therefore for the array to work best it needs to face south from where I live (northern hemisphere). That restricts the direction of the light to shine to the north. The mounting stakes appear adequate, but I wouldn't dare try weed whacking near them. The lights can be mounted on a more sturdy structure or wall (with built-in base and supplied screws/anchors), so that should be a non-issue. Hope you find this helpful, L. ... show more
