5 stars, primarily because of Cooler Shock's excellent customer service. Ordered the set of three 5 lb. ice packs, and was prepared to blend the packs' gel media with water per the method described in reviews. To my surprise, the packs arrived full with their contents in semi-solid form. Contacted Cooler Shock. Sure enough, someone had previously purchased these, added the water to the gel, and then returned them - and they were then resold by Amazon to me. Cooler Shock immediately made the situation right. As for the product itself, the packs have a heavy/solid feel when full, seem to be durable, stack well in a freezer and do freeze at about 18F. Gonna have to wait for the next power outage/hurricane to test out the packs, but not stressing that to much, lol. In the mean time, props to Cooler Shock. ... show more

I liked the flat size, although, the first one I filled up with water was a little challenging because of the flatness. However, read the directions and be sure to shake flat and away from your body to mix properly. I needed to transport three separate tiers of my son’s wedding cake up the mountain of I70 to Grand Junction, 6 hours away, so keeping the cakes cold and level was important. These worked great ! These are long lasting ice packs. We used 2 in our soft side cooler and everything stayed cold for several hours Continue in the 90° heat. Make sure you energetically shake these after adding the water or you end up with the gel concentrated in one area.

This is no longer a US-made product; made by the chi-coms as is so much these days. Included two sets of instructions which were different from one another. The user needs to shake the ice pack very hard in order to dislodge the powder from its location under the carrying handle prior to filling with water. My order included a plastic funnel which was very helpful, but lacked the silicone plugs which were to be inserted after filling with water. I recommend adding water only one cup at a time, then shaking vigorously to keep the powder loose before adding the next cup; up to the total of seven cups of water (for the Large size cooler packs). That having been said, the gel sets up so quickly that it is impossible to get all of the powder dissolved before the gel forms. Then insert the silicone plugs (if they remembered to include them in the package), screw on the caps, and freeze. The cool packs do a good job of keeping items cold despite not all of the powder being dissolved and formed into gel. Haven't had the chance yet to see how well they fare on a multi-day trip though. ... show more

I have read all of the reviews. It's not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. 1) Get everything you need, ready and next to you. 2) Work alone. You can work faster alone. 3) These powdered-beads do NOT like cold water. And will get hard fast. 4) I used 80-85 degree water, (NOT HOT) with 2 hard funnels that will not fold up. 5) I emptied out the powder into three equal small cups; with its own "dry" funnel that will not touch any water. 6) Pour the first amount of powder in the container and even it out across the bottom. Do not make one pile at the bottom. 7) Pour 2 cups of warm water into the container and shake it side to side, up and down, with your finger over the hole. 8) Stand it up and added the next amount of powder, then 2 more cups of warm water and shake it up again. 9) Add the last amount of powder and warm water and shake it all up good. With the warm water, it should all shake up together.. 10) This should take less than 4 minutes. 11) Press the air out and add the silicone cork, then the black cap and twist on tight. 12) YES, 100% yes; When you are adding the water, the powder will expand and it will BURP!! Make sure the funnel has away for the air to escape when it burps. Last) Lie the container flat for 20 minutes to finish expanding. Place in the freezer FLAT with a paper towel between them or alone for 24 hours or until "ALL" of the expanded gel is 100% hard. My 3 containers were solid rocks in 6 hours, but I left them in for a full 24 hours. I filled all three containers with no problems in about 15 minutes. I plan on buying three more sets when I have the money. Worth every penny and the 15 minutes it took to fill them.! ... show more

This thing was complete waste of money and time. Lets start with the funnel. They give u this funnel that looks like those period cup thing and doesnt even stand up so its always flopping around. Not to mention its too big so u gotta cut the bottom portion so it will fit in the spout of the pack. Then u gotta make sure u only put 1 cup of water mix the chemicals making sure it doesnt bunch yet,which is impossible, then add the rest of your water. Then shake it vigorously to mix everything. Took literally forever and alot of arm strength. Then if u did it CORRECTLY it will work. But it leaked out of every single one i bought. I bought 12. Returned this and got my money back. This was a bunch of waste time. Plus the plastic its made of is like those cheap glassy plastic that cracks easily. Dont buy it! ... show more
