Maybe I was expecting more. The pieces in the box are very well made, and there's everything (less the baking ingredients) you need. I do wish it had more recipes and kid friendly flavors/options. You can find each of the individual items for less money, but this would be an ok gift for an experienced baker. I really like the idea, but I got this for a 10yr old, who is limited in experience and this is for someone older or more experienced. The box came came torn and missing the piping bags with nozzles, I have a ton so that did not impact me. The directions were very easy to follow yet I still messed up the custard by using the egg whites instead of yolks. Luckily I had plenty of time to fix it due to the order of the directions. I have a cheap double boiler left over from a chocolate baking kit and that seemed to do the trick, didn’t have to improvise on that part. Once completed, I browned the top by placing in the broiler for a few minutes to make it look fancy! All in all, the kit was a great hit and we were thrilled with the dessert. I really enjoyed making them. The instructions were very clear but it was a little bit confusing switching back and forth between the two papers for the dough recipe and instructions on how to make it. I would suggest having them on all the same paper so the user doesn’t have to switch back and forth. The pictures and steps are really helpful and I love the ruler and size guides. The only thing I might add to the kit is some parchment paper for those who don’t bake often and might not have that on hand. I’ve never heard of the baking weights before and that was a lot of fun to use and unique. Over all this was an amazing kit and experience! ... show more

This is a great gift idea for a couple or group of people to enjoy. My sister and I had so much fun making the French tarts. It was an all day adventure so start early for sure. We have never worked with pie weights and the candy thermometer so it was a neat experience stepping into the world of pastry chefs. :) We made our tarts a little thicker than the recipe recommendation and really liked it. Our meringue ended up a little runny but tasted delicious. The richness of the lemon in combination with the soft meringue was scrumptious! Plus, all the tools it comes with is high quality and will be a great addition to anyone's kitchen! ... show more
