  • What sort of voodoo magic is this?
Style: Men's: Detailer and Shaver Attachment
I am a hairy man. My hair could be used to fill out a Mason Pearson boar-brittle hairbrush, and people would think it's an improvement. That also means that my hair has routinely broken instruments supposedly built to endure human hair cutting rigors. I'm so hairy that the only way I was able to secure a wife was by (a) never taking my shirt off in front of her, (b) my irresistible charm, and (c) having a gorgeous head of hair when I seduced her. Since that time, the locks atop my head decided to relocate to my nose's interior, ear lobes, and ear canals. Yes, I am still married; I said I was charming, remember? If there is a hair trimmer on the market, I have used it and subsequently destroyed it. I am a slayer of hair trimming products. Hair-removing creams slide away from me. And the one time I decided to try laser hair removal, the diode willingly chose to reflect its beam off a mirror and shoot itself in the lens. After my most recent ear- and nose-hair trimmer squealed in an untimely death—I remember a faint puff of smoke as it gave up the ghost—I came back to Amazon looking to throw another sacrifice before my follicle gods. As if the sea-mermaid cherubs of Enlightenment-era painting wept sweet rain upon my scorched face, Amazon 'recommended for me' the ConairMAN Battery-Powered Ear/Nose Trimmer. In truth, I was skeptical. The strange mushroom-capped tip reminded me of something else that I would never want to shove up my nose. And yet, positive reviews abounded. Admittedly, these must be bots, and this ill-shaped probe a sham. But I was desperate—this hairy man. So I parted with my cash, saved from years of circus performing as The Incredible Velcro Human, and waited for the ConairMAN trimmer to arrive. I set the bag and sideburn trimmer attachment aside and then went straight to my bathroom. Since four days had passed since I last hacked through the jungles within my nose and around my ears, there were plenty of hardened keratin strands to slay. As I inserted the battery and twisted the device on, I was sure I heard an orphan cry in the distance. Immediately, the promiscuously shaped tip and its peripheral side slots slipped into my nasal orifice like a space wizard entering subspace. Then, as if powered by a kyber crystal from the caves of Ilum, the hairs fell victim to the ConairMAN's voodoo magic. I pulled the device out, examined it, and then checked my nose: no pain, no tugging, and baby-seal-smooth skin. "Can it be?" I asked in a hushed tone. I proceeded to wrest the adjacent nostril of its sordid overgrowth. The ConairMAN neither hesitated nor complained, but set to its task as eagerly as a lumberjack to old-growth forest in Washington State. With my nose clear, I proceed to free both ears—lobes and canals alike. I felt as though I waved a magic wand over those errant hairs, demanding that they yield to my new tool's mighty awesomeness. But still, I was not done. Could this painless and effective cutting tool be ConairMAN-enough to engage the beast that is my beard? No, I did not cut off my beard with the tool. Do you honestly think I would so quickly abandon my sacred double-chin covering? Please. However, I did use the ConairMAN to tidy up the edges that creep toward my lower eyelids and collarbone. Having survived more than two months of near-constant trimming, the ConairMAN now sits upon a tiny heated-seat throne in my bathroom's medicine cabinet where the toenail clippers and tweezers hand-feed it grapes. I am a hairy man. And I am no longer without hope, but my nose and ears are without hair. ... show more

  • Lithium ≠ Rechargeable
Style: Men's: Lithium Powered
Call me a sucker, but when a product is advertised as "lithium powered," it's reasonable to assume it's lithium ion rechargable. Sure, it doesn't really explicitly say "rechargable" but caveat emptor, but "lithium" and "rechargable" have been pretty much synonymous when it comes to personal grooming products over the last decade or so. Instead, what a paid a premium over vs. the version advertised as AA battery-powered and including an additional (and probably useful) attachment is to have A SINGLE, NON-RECHARGABLE ENERGIZER LITHIUM AA included in the package. I don't frankly care about how well it works, and it's cheap enough to not be worth the hassle of returning and exchanging for the other version and just using own AA non-rechargable lithium batteries collecting dust in my drawer. What a shameful ploy. ... show more

  • Ambiguous instructions. Thought mine was defective.
Style: Men's: Detailer and Shaver Attachment
Just increased my rating from one to four stars. Thought I had two defective ones. Amazon sent me a second. The problem. Instructions say to insert battery positive terminal down. No illustration on inserting the battery. I took the cap off, looked down at the space for the battery, and with positive terminal down, dropped it in. What they mean’t was, when the trimmer is standing upright, positive terminal points down. Or, the positive terminal should be touching the cap end. Admittedly, I know the negative terminal always hits the coiled end. Still, I was just following directions. Pretty dark in the tunnel, and the coil is very tiny. Easy to miss. Especially so when the directions can be interpreted two ways. I wasn’t looking for the coil at the bottom of the tunnel. Suggestion to Conair. Install the battery before shipping. Test it before shipping. Better use of the English language will prevent returns. An illustration really shouldn’t be necessary on a minor point like this. ... show more

  • if you have tried a nose trimmer with the typical tip that is nozzle-like and didn't like it, get this one
Style: Men's: Detailer and Shaver Attachment
So guys, if you have tried a nose trimmer with the typical tip that is nozzle-like and didn't like it, get this one. For whatever reason, the nozzle tip trimmers never did the job very good for me. This one, with the mushroom-type tip, works much better. Glad I finally found a trimmer worth reviewing. ... show more

  • Stop torturing yourself!
Style: Men's: Detailer and Shaver Attachment
Great product! Like most of you men over age 40 I started noticing hair loss where I did not want it and hair growth where I especially did not want it...nostril hair. I used wide blade tweezers hoping that pulling the hairs from the roots would work. It was a painful failure. I bought a small metal device that one had to twist back and forth to engage the blades. This was okay. Then I found this trimmer and decided to give it a try. It comes with a nose cone and an ear trimmer blade. It is battery operated. It is inserted in the nostril and trims hair at the base (plucking is a losing and painful proposition). It clears everything. It may clog with mucous and I just disengaged the tip and washed under running water with soap. ... show more

  • Great tool...once you get it too work!
Style: Men's: Detailer and Shaver Attachment
Wow! What a fast and thorough job it does on annoying ear hair. I haven’t tried it on my nose hair yet. It definitely deserved 5 stars for its intended purpose! For the reason I gave it 3 stars: After following the enclosed info sheet and installing a new battery I rotated the lower housing switch to on. No power to the motor! Hmmmm? Reread the instruction; changed the battery...no joy! Okay, my question is “does the motor work?” I took a small piece of wire, removed the On-Off switch cap and completed the battery circuit to the motor. The motor ran good and fast, as it should. It appears the metal contact on the inside of the battery compartment wall was not making contact with the metal contact in the end of the switch cap. Solved this by taking that small piece of thin wire and making a coil. That was then pressed into the cap switch to give all the battery contacts better contact when the switch is rotated to ON. Now my device works as it should and I am VERY happy with it! ... show more
