  • Holds pressure. Material seems medium-duty. Somewhat awkward to inflate. Update: pillowing failing
Size: Queen
The #1 thing in air mattresses (if you're read ANY reviews for any of them): this holds air pressure! I did not wait until it was needed to see if stretching of the material would lead to lower inflation pressure. I inflated fully, and topped off repeatedly regardless of how firm it felt. Over the course of over one week it held air just fine. We would prefer to not have the sculpted sleeping surface, that's personal preference. It does provide one plus, along with the "velour" type material coating: you don't feel like you're sliding around. You can find a position for elbows, knees, hips, Etc. to "dig in". With the Coleman inflation pump purchased at the same time, there is no way for the pump to hold itself to the mattress's port, you have to hold it there exerting pressure for a good seal. It's a bit too easy to push the valve in, closing off airflow so accomplishing nothing but heating up the pump. Considering you have to push in firmly to give a good seal for the pump, it's the same force for opposite goals - awkward but doable. I noticed some plastic odor upon first use that quickly faded away to no longer an issue. The one we received had no storage pouch or patch kit (queen size) - just the mattress and a printed instruction sheet (that's hardly necessary). If we ever need/decide to try patching a hole what to do? If it was the (vinyl?) portion maybe. I doubt I would try patching the "velour" surface - past history with other mattresses that never went well. So overall satisfied - it held air, we got good sleep while temp camping. UPDATE: The “pillowing” - where the recessed portion of the contours are, are failing. Where they originally are recessed, one by one those are now expanding into a bubble (three so far, one on one end (say by your feet) and two by the head). It appears the recessed areas on the top and bottom sides are pinched and joined inside the mattress. Those joins are detaching, causing a bubble instead. It’s not surprising, as this design would create stress points there (and the contouring doesn’t add to the comfort IMO). Now I simply wish ALL it would fail outright in this way so the airbed would once again have a consistent shape. It’s not horrible as is however. It still holds air, and otherwise is a usable, low-cost airbed sufficient for our needs. It’s been used about a dozen times, twice in a tent while summer camping, and indoors as a very temporary bed for unanticipated visitors to sleep. I changed from 5-stars to 3 for you, the review reader; I’m okay with it (4 stars), but if you desire the contours in the original shape, when it starts to pop out the recessed portions you’ll possibly be disappointed by that. For me, once/if it completes popping out all of the itself it seems it will end up as basically an inverse of the original contours (becoming contoured by bulges instead of recessed areas). If I get around to it I’ll post pics. ... show more

  • How to fix leaks
Size: Twin
I haven't used this mattress yet, but I have patched many leaks in this type of mattress. Linda B complained that, being deaf, she could not hear a pin hole leak. Linda, none of us can hear a pin hole leak! That's why we either put the mattress in a tub of water and look for bubbles, or apply a soap or detergent solution and watch for the leak to blow soap bubbles. There is a product made just for this purpose called Snoop; plumbers swear by it and say that its performance can't be duplicated. Put a pin in the hole to mark the location while you rinse and dry the mattress; it won't make the patch any less effective. Another way to find a leak is to moisten your hand and hold it near a suspected leak. You may then feel the leak as a cold spot on your hand as the air blows at the moisture. I use a general-purpose adhesive called Seal-All which you can purchase on Amazon. It sticks very well to vinyl, unlike many adhesives. No sheet vinyl patch material is needed for pinhole leaks, just the adhesive. E6000 adhesive, also on Amazon, says that it sticks to vinyl but I haven't tried it yet. It has the advantage that you can buy a pack of several small 5.3 mL tubes if you are an infrequent user, rather than buying a big tube which will go bad a while after being opened. You just have to decide, in your particular case, whether a big tube would be a waste because it goes bad or small tubes are wasteful because they cost more per ounce of glue. By the way, when you use glue in a tube always wipe the threads of the tube before you replace the cap so that the cap doesn't get glued on to the tube. This is very important and makes the unused glue remaining in the tube last much, much longer. You may want to use acetone (pure acetone nail polish remover) or another solvent to clean the threads or any spills. I'm not sure what the best solvent is to use for the 2 types of glue I mentioned, but my 2 guesses are acetone or lacquer thinner. In the case of a large tear that you could put a finger through, you can apply a patch from the inside and it will be more durable than a patch on the outside because it won't be fighting the air pressure, the air pressure will be pressing it towards the material. I have done this with duck tape and with Johnson & Johnson old-fashioned cloth first-aid tape, which I believe is a form of duck tape. You can apply another patch to the outside to help keep the edges of the material from snagging. Duck tape is tape made out of cotton duck fabric. For taping ducts you need something different. ... show more

  • What it should be.
Size: Twin
First, I inflated this for a couple days and left it in my garage because they say to inflate it for a bit to allow it to stretch ( it is now printed right on the mattress). Also, it stinks out of the package but after a couple days in the garage it was pretty much gone. I want to enjoy the fresh air of nature not nasty plastic fumes. I camped at one location for a week and only needed to add a little air twice, probably could have even only done once. I have never had an air mattress that held air that good before and I have had many airbeds, including other Coleman brand. Quite a few reviews stated leaks, so you never know; but, many people also let their pets walk on their air mattress. Be wary of borrowing an air mattress to someone with a dog or cat, at least if you want one that holds air when you get it back. ... show more

  • Good Quality Airbed
Size: Twin
Nice quality and comfortable airbed for the price. The first night I woke up and discovered it had deflated a bit and was concerned there was a leak. After testing, we found out that the plug was not completely sealed. **There are 2, one inside the other. Make extra sure to push the plug all the way in and both will seal and stay sealed.** Second night I had no problem whatsoever and zero deflation. Very pleased! ... show more
