  • Works as advertised
Size: Pack of 1
Product works as advertised. Easy to peel off the backing. Easy to cut using a sharp blade. Be aware if you are cutting a lot of this product you'll end up having adhesive residue build up on your blade. Only con is the price. It is cheaper to purchase from Menards (SKU: 1551420). There you can get 4" x 75' for $23.99. Did not know this at the time of purchase when I ordered 10 of this item. Suggestion when installing: make sure to pull the tape when applying. Meaning first apply the tape on the stop surface of the joist while pulling the tape. Then come back and pull down the sides. Word of caution: Once applied, it is very hard to take off without leaving any residual on your material. Especially if the tape was exposed to the sunlight. ... show more

  • Works - better for simple decks, I think Vycor is better in long run.
Size: Pack of 1
I used this for single joists and got Vycor 4" for the double joists and split the Vycor in half for rim joists. Definitely use a roller to get better adhesion. If your deck joists are still green/wet from pressure treating, let them dry out a few days as that will help, too. Pros - The Cofair flashing is cheaper and thinner, both of which are nice. I was mostly interested in it because the surface is pure black, where the Vycor is greenish-black with white lettering that can be seen through the gaps. Cons - The surface of this tape is more brittle, where the Vycor is more rubbery. This means that punctures will somewhat re-seal themselves on the Vycor, but not on the Cofair. yes, the adhesive still has a sealing property, but it's much better for the tape to also re-seal. Also, due to the brittle type plastic used in the Cofair, it will wrinkle up in direct sunlight. So, if you're building your deck in the hot NC summer like I did, you will need to stretch the tape out when applying and use a roller. Even then, it will have a tendency to wrinkle up. This is not a problem along the joist tops, but at the connection points or tricky spots like corners or where stairs attach, this can cause pockets to form that might collect water or debris. The Vycor tape performs much better in this regard. Don't over-use this product and have any upward-facing edges in tricky spots.. Any upward-facing edges will wrinkle and make nice little pockets to hold water/etc. I fell victim to the urge to protect everything I could, and had to go back and trim out some spots - specifically along the header where the stairs attach. Technically, the Vycor has the same limitation (just proper flashing technique), but it does not suffer the wrinkling problem. If I had it to do over, I would probably just spend a little bit extra and use the Vycor everywhere. I have a 2-level deck with 3 sets of stairs and octagonal corners, so lots of tricky spots. If I was doing a simple square deck with no stairs or one set of stairs, and no double-joists, then I might save a few dollars and use the Cofair. ... show more

  • Good bargain poly joist tape.
Size: Pack of 1
The media could not be loaded. Pretty good stuff, but the SDS brand is superior. Not bad for the price though. It was relatively easy to apply. It wrinkled a little when the sun hit it and softened it a bit.

  • Installs pretty good and seems pretty good
Size: Pack of 1
It's OK WRT installing. Honestly, it does not stick very well out of the box. And you might think that's a deal breaker. But, with just a little heat from a heat gun, it sticks great. My process is to cut it to length, peal the backing as I affix it to the top of the joist and then go back with the heat gun to warm it and push it down to the top and over the sides of the joist. It would be nicer to not have to use the heat gun, but it's not that bad of a process either. It seems like it will perform well. It's rather tough. IOW, it's not something that's going to fall apart immediately. Whether it actually performs well is a something I'll know in 10 to 20 years. I'll get back to you on that :) FYI, I tried both this and the DeckWise competitor. They seem EXACTLY the same. From the packaging I'd say they come from the same factory. And, this product (cofair) is WAY cheaper. ... show more

  • Sticks very well
Size: Pack of 1
It applies to clean bare wood very well. The areas where I brushed on some wood preservative wouldn't stick. Basically avoid putting it on surface that's dirty, has sawdust, is wet, or has any other contaminants.

  • Effective, easy to use.
Size: Pack of 1
This tape is necessary when building decks to prevent water from collecting on top of joists and causing rot. Very thick, cushiony and sticky as needed. Easy to use. Effective Best tape found. Even in our dry climate, deck joists without joist tape on top developed rot which compromised structural integrity over the years. No outdoor deck should be built without it! ... show more

  • Easy to use
Size: Pack of 1
Was not sure that joist tape was worth the cost and effort, but now that I've used it I think it was a good choice. It sticks well on new wood. We reused some older joists and it does not stick well on older wood with debris on it. I used a few staples to hold in place. The tape is sturdy and tough but easy to cut with a razor knife. Paper backing comes off easily. I read about it buckling but we had no issues with that. ... show more
