  • Surprisingly Good Results
First, 5 stars does not mean perfect. No, the repairs are not invisible. But they are very good and not very noticeable unless you are looking for them. Kind of like that small scratch on your car that no one else notices. I bought this kit about a year ago and, frankly, was a bit afraid to use it. DIY repair products often over-promise results and understate the difficulty of use. So, given that I bought this to repair a tear in the red leather rear seat of my car, which was covered by a dog seat cover anyway, I was able to just ignore the tear. However, when I created a small tear and wear marks in the black leather dash of my SUV when I removed a cell phone mount, I decided something had to be done. So, following the directions, I mixed the black and cream colors to arrive at the shade of black of my dash. I applied the mix using the provided spatula and then, to give it the more pebbled look of the leather, I lightly pressed the repaired area with the backing material provided in the kit. To my surprise, the process was quick and easy, taking maybe 15 minutes. And the dash looks great. Being emboldened by this success, I decided to repair the much larger damaged red leather seat in my car. I understood that (1) red is a very difficult color to match and (2) a larger damaged area would still be more noticeable after repair. Many moons ago, not seeing the exact shade of red on the provided chart, I emailed the manufacturer who, upon reviewing my photo and looking up the car's actual trim color, advised me to use red as the primary color and add in burgundy until the color matched (or was slightly lighter as it dries darker). Per those instructions I only added a small amount of the secondary color until it looked like a match. Again I used the provided spatula and spread the mixture over the damaged area. And I again used the backing cloth the smooth out and add texture to the repair. Yes, the repair is noticeable. But it doesn't stand out unless you know where to look. As this repair is on the seat cushion it remains to see how durable it will be. I am a novice at these sort of repairs and similar DIY projects I have attempted in the past have not always turned out great. But, in both cases here, the results were very good. The process was easy. And clean-up was simple. And I saved a ton of money over what professional repair shops wanted. In the picture, in the repaired area, the leather was torn and the backing was exposed. There were also black marks from Velcro. No more tear and the color is a very close match. And this was the first time I used this kit. ... show more

  • Works great
I have an office chair that is almost 20 years old, and it's an ergonomic, extremely well built chair that has a lot of hours of me, would be curious to know the actual time-milage. Anyway, it has survived the test of time except for the arm rests, which started to crack and tear. I talked to some people about repairing them, thought about trying to replace them, and stumbled on this product. Will list out pros and cons: Pros: * Very easy to apply * Creates literally like a skin layer to it, and so far, no issues with it tearing * Color matching is easy * Their customer service is amazing. I sent them pictures, they literally assign someone to work with you on your project/problem * You can just apply it directly, or use the cloth that they provide, either way works * There are videos they supply, or on YouTube, that show you how to apply the compound, patch things, etc. Cons: * You have to be careful with the surface. I thought the compound would be thicker, but whatever you apply it to, will affect the surface (for example, if you have torn fabric, you need to cut off any errant threads) * It's not as easy to smooth out a surface, this is where you just have to get good at applying it Some cons that are for dunderheads like me: * After you apply the compound to the armrest, and go wash your hands, grab a snack and some coffee, and then sit down in your chair, you might want to remember the compound hasn't dried yet ... (I got to redo some work after my hand went right on the arm rest) * Their customer service is amazing, but they do not have a sense of humor about instead of color matching, why not put funky colors or draw a design instead. They are really serious about matching the exact color. I am color blind, so that was not going to be possible even with their help (and they even told me what colors to mix, I decided meh, I like put blue on the black surface, because that is how I roll) Now, with all that said, the compound is amazing, I used it on a bunch of things, but I did decide afterall to put armrest covers on my chair, since the compound wasn't that smooth (wasn't a problem, I am just a spoiled gamer/home office person who loves comfort), and also the covers will protect the armrests going forward. Again, it can be made smooth, you just have to be a bit diligent in your prep work as opposed to, hey, let's squirt some compound so we can get back to gaming, I mean, work ;) Overall, highly recommend this product, and again, very impressed with their level of service. ... show more

  • Easy to use on the light damage sofa
It is easy to use and works well for repairing light damage on sofas and other vinyl or leather items. It allows for color mixing to match your material, but achieving a perfect match may require some patience. The kit is ideal for minor repairs, though it could benefit from including extra brushes, as the provided one is often only good for a single use. Overall, it's a cost-effective solution for small-scale repairs. ... show more

  • Very pleased
Nice little kit that can produce excellent results. Color mixing for an exact match can require a keen eye but a perfect match is possible with some skill. Notes: colors dry slightly darker than when applied wet. Its important to apply in multiple ( 4-5) very thin coats and allow 5-10 minutes drying time in between. Use the small mixing container to preserve the batch batch between coats. A drop of water will extend the pot life if needed. Application with a small foam brush seemed to work best for me and also seemed to provide the correct smooth satin finish I needed. Avoid the temptation to completely cover the repair in one or two coats as these heavier coats tend to get tacky, reduce the workability, and create a rough finish. If "dabbing" is required to fill cracks be sure to smooth it with the foam brush. Dabbing alone make as dull or rough finish. This kit was the perfect size to repair a leather wrapped steering wheel and a seat bolster. Complete or multiple seat restoration might require a larger kit. ... show more
