The mat did have a strong unpleasant scent when first taken out of the package, but it was completely gone after airing the mat out for a couple of days before using it. Overall, I do like this mouse pad and the discount price I paid 100% makes it worth it. It's nice and large plus, the print on it is good quality. The one and only con I have with this is the edge of the pad is a little too thick. For normal day work use it doesn't bother me. I'm really surprised at the quality. The photos didn't do it justice. It's heavy duty, unrolled with no wrinkles or creases and the photo is clear and detailed. I got the map and I haven't really looked at it yet so I assume it's correct but I guess it could be off. But for the price it was well worth it. It grips and doesn't move once it's laid down, it works perfectly for the mouse without needing a separate mouse pad and it didn't have an odor.
