I think most people use these for rock painting (dotting), but they work well for other things too. For many years, I have used the smallest ones when I need a stylus. I used to sign all my jewelry cards with one of these dipped in gold enamel ink. I also use them to pull off a small drop of glue when too much is too much. Later, after it has cured a bit and the small amount of excess has peeked out around the edges and begun to harden some, I can use the stylus to gently pull off the unsightly glue. If you have waited the right amount of time, the excess will hold together and pull off in one piece like a string. Also, you can use the various sizes to add texture to clay, or to recess an area to allow for eyes on a clay animal or face. This is an excellent set -- it covers all the sizes one would ever need. I'm a scale modeler and this set works great to mold and shape putty for the stowage and modification of figures I occassionally do on model projects. I use the silicon ends for laying down masking fluid on my watercolor paper. They work quite well for this purpose and cleaning them is a breeze. I use the metal ends on tracing paper to transfer my drawings onto watercolor paper. I like that there are a variety of sizes. This allows me to select the appropriate size for all my projects. First set I received two tips were missing but I got a replacement because I really wanted to love these. Great variety-great price BUT…stain comes off the wood handles and when you wipe the tips guess what came off now two of them? Yep!! So look for a better set, pay a little more. It will be worth it.
