My dad has an Afro and my mom has straight hair, so I have a balance of both, being very wavy too extremely curly on any given day. This thing works great, even with very thick hair! I am shock as I’ve always used larger plates on hair straighteners I have purchased in the past. I was a little hesitant because I was reading the reviews and some of them were saying that it’s a fake item or that the cord gets tangled easily. The product works great for hair, straightening as well as curling. I’ve never been able to curl my hair with a hair straightener, EVER! I looked up a YouTube tutorial of how to do it with a 1 inch plate, like this item has, and as I followed the tutorial, it was super easy to achieve the perfect curl, and I was literally gasping in the mirror as the curl dropped. 360° swivel cord makes curling super easy! I don’t think it’s necessary to buy a heat glove, since the tips of this hair straightener definitely do get hot, the 360° swivel cord makes it so you can just turn the hair straightener with your right or left hand without using both to achieve the perfect curl. Totally recommend this product even if you have very thick hair! My hair is also colored and I use product in my hair and I didn’t notice anything on the plates after I was done. Once it cooled down, I did wipe down the plates with some vinegar, just to make sure that I’m not leaving product on the plates themselves. I had to get a new hair straightener, which is why I purchased this one, because I didn’t clean the last one good enough and my hair always smell burnt. There is only one heat setting ~ Which in this case is not a bad thing. I believe it said it would goes up to 375°, my other one had a couple different temperature settings the maximum 450 or 475°. Even with very thick hair straightener heats up to the amount that I need for my hair to become straighten, smooth or curly and smooth. ... show more

CHI is a good, dependable brand and their products reflect that. This flat iron does have some downsides-not being able to see the heat that it's at and no way to adjust it is a big one-but for it's price, it makes up with quality. I will only buy Chi flat irons. They are legit products and last a long time. The one inch plates are perfect for how I style my hair. They glide smoothly through my hair and never get tangled or knot up my hair. Only one temperature? Weird. Cord is super long and stiff material. I had to curl it up and tie it so isn’t all over the floor. Appears cheaply made. It straightens your hair, that’s all. I don’t understand the good ratings.

Decent barrel size, very smooth when straightened, easy slide does not pull hair, high shine. Heats up very fast. Great option for a friendly budget. This is my 3rd CHI one lasted over 8 years. NEVER DROP THEM the plates fall out after that
