  • Great handle!
I had my previous Chemex with the wood collar handle for over ten years, and then I broke it. Very sad. Made so much good coffee with it. This one with the glass handle replaced it and I love it. The handle looked small and possibly slippery, but it's been great in use. Even better that the wood handle. Would buy again!! ... show more

  • Great improvement for Chemex
I wanted a Chemex setup where I wouldn't burn my fingers or fumble the pot while trying to pour. The glass handle is exactly what I needed, stays cool while the pot itself is hot, and is comfortable to hold and pour.

  • Perfect size, delicious coffee
Chemex glass coffee makers brew a lovely cup of coffee! The design allows for precise pour over action. This size is perfect for 1-3 people. It is sleek and unobtrusive, and cute- making it a nice addition to the counter top. I use the coffee sock organic cotton reusable filter with this Chemex and the combination allows for a very pure taste. Also I use a Cosari gooseneck kettle for pour-over precision. If you are considering switching from an automatic electric coffee maker, definitely go for it! The absence of chemicals from plastics and other treated polymers in traditional machines can ruin a good cup of coffee. ... show more

  • thinner than the classic one with collar, felt fragile
I got it after seeing some reviewers commenting they love the handle but it was obviously thinner and the handle simply does not offer me a good grasp as the classic collar. So I returned it and ordered the class one instead. I've used class one with Collar for many years. It is more solid and substantial. ... show more

  • My preferred method of coffee brewing
I am a a self proclaimed coffee snob. I strive for the perfect cup of coffee and this delivers. When you use quality roasted and freshly ground beans, adding filtered water at the perfect temperature, you will never go back to pods, electric brewing or even french press. The science works. Plus, is super easy to clean. Mine looks as new even though it is 4 years old. ... show more

  • First time using a Chemex - so far so good
I moved into a new apartment and needed a new coffee maker, and in doing some research I came across the Chemex. I have never even heard of it before but I liked the idea of not having a clunky machine on my already cluttered counter. I debated on getting the 6-cup or 8 cup but I ended up getting the 6-cup. It would mostly be me drinking it but sometimes my daughter drinks coffee too. I also got a gooseneck kettle and a coffesock filter. I've only used it a handful of times but I really like it so far. I like that it's simple and makes a good, clean cup of coffee. I was worried that the process would be too much trouble but I actually like the routine. The only thing I don't like so far is trying to figure out how to keep it warm. Right now I put the chemex in a pot with some water to keep it warm until I figure out something else. So when I boil the water in the kettle, I put some water in a pot at the same time so by the time it's done the water in the pot is warm. I read that one lady uses a silicone lid to keep the heat in and I thought that was a great idea. Right now the 6 cup is working out good. I'd say with a half a 'pot' you get about 1 1/2 - 2 cups/mugs out of it and a full pot would be enough for the same for 2 people each. Yesterday me and my daughter both drank some and there was even some leftover. If you're debating on the size like I was, if you are using it for 2 people and you drink more than 2 cups each I'd go with the 8 cup. If you are 1 or 2 people and only drink one or 2 cups, the 6 cup would be a good size. ... show more

  • Pours Well
I've had a similar pot for a long time, but it always "dribbled" when pouring. The Chemex is sturdier, and pours perfectly. I use it with a fine metal filter, as well as a paper filter, and I'm very pleased. It's nice not to have a large coffeemaker on the counter when I only have one or two cups of coffee in the morning. ... show more

  • Beautiful and easy with one minor flaw
The Chemex makes it easy (and almost fool proof) to brew a great cup of coffee. If you’re just starting out manually brewing coffee at home, I’d say this is the way to go. On the days you just don’t want to experiment With other methods, don’t have enough time, or just want a quick no frills coffee, or need to make a lot of coffee at once, the Chemex is a winner. However, if you take the plunge I suggest purchasing a Chemex with over a 6 cup capacity and possibly without the glass handle. On the 6 cup Chemex with a handle, there is a lip on the pour spout that doesn’t allow me to slowly transfer brewed coffee from the Chemex to a mug without it dribbling around and down the lip, which spills coffee on the mug and counter. A workaround to this is to pour fast and steady. I use another carafe when I brew coffee with a V-60 or Kalita wave and that never happens, slow pour or not (those are also my go-to brew methods with Kalita Wave for the win, which I highly suggest learning and brewing coffee with if you’re brewing any type of premium coffee at home). Since I don’t use the Chemex much, I often forget to pour fast so I’m cleaning up coffee off my mug and counter almost every time. It’s a small gripe and price to pay for a beautiful and easy brew method, but it’s a nuisance enough to warrant inclusion in this review. Go big and purchase the original design if you can. I purchased the one with the handle because I test drove the original Chemex 10-cup capacity (which is stunning as well and does not dribble coffee on the counter) but it is bottom heavy and doesn’t include a handle which made me feel like I would break it. ... show more
