  • Perfect drip coffee
Pattern Name: Main unit for 3 cups
This was the perfect office coffee solution. It's super easy to clean, and the filters aren't too too pricey for the quality of the coffee. I'm looking forward to buying one of the larger versions!

  • Great Coffee Maker, Even For Beginners
Pattern Name: Main unit for 3 cups
I really struggled when deciding between a Chemex setup or a decent automatic drip machine. It's tough because while the Chemex is always cheaper than a good drip machine, it's enticing to do less work in the morning. However, I decided on the Chemex 3 cup after a lot of thinking and research, and here's why: - Smaller serving sizes (I drink 1-2 cups, never more). Perfect for one or two people - Easier cleaning - Simpler, no moving parts to break over time - Reportedly better tasting coffee over automatics Basically, I started looking at drip filters because I was getting a little tired of making espresso every day. Sometimes my shots wouldn't pull perfectly, and it's pretty frustrating on those days you just want a simple, no-frills cup of coffee. I have a french press, but I wanted something with a little thinner body than my typical espresso drinks. I've never really used a drip maker before. I expected it to be really annoying or difficult to figure out, but it really wasn't. I would highly recommend getting a good gram scale (with a timer) with this coffee maker, since it makes it so much easier to replicate the same cup of coffee every morning. I use about 25g of coffee per 390g of water. All you have to do is grind your coffee, weigh it to 25g, dump it in the Chemex (with your filter), tare your scale, and pour hot water slowly until you reach 390g. It should take about 4 minutes in total to reach the 390g. If you're a newcomer, that might sound intimidating, but honestly it's really easy after you do it once. There are plenty of videos on how to do it on YouTube. I was a little worried, because it looks really complicated, but as soon as I tried it I realized you pretty much can't mess up as long as you use the right amount of coffee and water, and let it drip for the right time. I came into this with low expectations, and I was actually surprised to find that the coffee you make in the Chemex really does taste better. It's more complex, and I could taste stuff that I couldn't when using the same beans in my french press. And surprisingly, the coffee isn't nearly as thin-bodied as I was expecting from the heavy filter. The mouthfeel is still quite substantial, but incredibly smooth and satisfying. It might just be the filter, but I found that some of the more stubborn coffees that I usually only run through my espresso machine tend to be much easier to make in the Chemex. I have a lighter-roast espresso that kept coming out sour and acidic in my french press (regardless of water temp and grind), and it poured beautifully the first time I put in through the Chemex. For the first time, I actually understand why some people call lighter roasts "refreshing". I used to just think they were sour and awful in a french press. Overall, I think this is a really good bang for your buck if you're looking to make a great cup of coffee. It's relatively inexpensive, and the filters really aren't too bad in price, unless you're making like 5 pots a day or something. Also, I feel like the Chemex is going to make better coffee than most of your automatic machines, simply because you have way more control over the process. ... show more

  • Well Worth the Effort - Even for the Morning Mentally Challenged!!!
Pattern Name: Main unit for 3 cups
We're weaning ourselves off the Keurig mainly due to the limited choices of environmentally friendly packaging, but also because you simply get better tasting coffee outside of the Keurig realm After some research, we landed on the Chemex - and LOVE it!!! It's definitely a bit more of an investment of time and labor than simply popping a Keurig plastic cup into a brewer, and on the those mornings when you need it east and fast, the Chemex solution might feel like a Herculean effort, but if you are willing to preserve, you will be rewarded with some superior coffee. It really helps if you have an electric kettle to get the water super hot and while it's boiling you can get the filter ready. Also, if you go this route, invest in a good burr coffee grinder. Amazon has a great selection of both appliances. I was totally skeptical that a grinder could really make a difference, but since we happened to have both the fancy Krups burr grinder and a cheap Krups grinder I put them both to the test, and was quite surprised to find it does make a difference. Having lost the bet with my better half over this issue, I now have to make the coffee in the morning for the next month. You do need a filter for the carafe, and Chemex of course has their version. I have to wonder about the folks at Chemex, they really made the filter thing a bit of an origami project and when you are half asleep trying to pull off a focused project, you might be tempted to throw a cup under the Keurig and be done. But if you can manage enough brain cells to get the filter folded (and the trick is make sure the little half circle thing is opened properly inside - again, a bit of feat when your eyes are barely open - otherwise coffee grounds will go right through). Chemex does sell pre-folded filters for the morning mentally challenged. So you may ask, why not just use the plain cone filters. Well, they don't fit properly and the mess you will have on your hands will leave you even more cranky than you were (yep, tried this and it was NOT a short-cut). Once the water is ready, you pour over it the grounds, wait a minute or two and repeat until the carafe is mostly full (great opportunity to get that dishwasher emptied while you are making the coffee). Remove the filter which is compostable or recyclable in the green waste can, so you can do your part for the environment, and pour your beautiful cup of joe. Obviously the major benefit of making coffee this way is you can buy really, really good beans. The carafe cleans up well and the coffee is downright awesome. If you have visited any of the more trendy coffee houses and noticed many are doing this pour-over type of coffee, and if you are patient, you will be rewarded with a truly fine cup of coffee. ... show more

  • WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG?????
Pattern Name: Main unit for 3 cups
I am not sure why I waited so long to buy this! My coffee is AMAZING NOW!! So smooth and doesn't take forever to make! I am a teacher with daycare drop off in the morning, and I still have plenty of time to make my coffee each morning, even without a Keurig. I highly recommend buying this. You will NEVER go back to coffee made any other way!! So smooth and delicious and I no longer need coffee creamer! No joke!! Buy one of these ASAP, you will NOT regret it. ... show more

  • The best coffee maker!
Pattern Name: Main unit for 3 cups
I bought this small Chemex pot to replace one I broke accidentally after using it for about 20 years. To me, there is no better cup of coffee than one made in a Chemex pour over carafe. I also have a larger one for times when friends are visiting.

  • Chemex rules!
Pattern Name: Main unit for 3 cups
Love its simplicity and utility. About 4 scoops of medium grind coffee are the maximum this size will hold so it is perfect for making 2 cups of coffee. The coffee is delicious but you do sacrifice some of the fullness of body in the mouthfeel, compared to a French press.. The coffee cools quickly unfortunately but as it doesn’t make a lot of coffee you can easily make another cup. You can put a clean dish towel over the Chemex to keep the coffee warm for about 20 minutes — just be careful when lifting the towel. ... show more
