    • Awesome intro flyer. Calibrate it!
For the price, this is an incredible little piece of technology. This was my first introduction to RC flying. I wanted to start small (and cheap) - I think this is an awesome starter copter. Like other reviewers have said, you NEED TO CALIBRATE IT, otherwise it will drift all over the place, which is terrible if you are a beginner. The instruction manual is all broken English - so here's a quick guide: - Set it on a flat surface. Turn on the copter. Turn on the remote. - Push IN the left (throttle) stick twice, you should hear 3 beeps. - Once the blue LED's are blinking steadily (not flashing quickly), push the throttle (left) stick up (you'll hear a beep) and then down (another beep) - this arms the copter - if you throttle up at this point, you're flying. - Hold the left stick at the BOTTOM LEFT and the right stick TOP LEFT and hold them there. Watch the blue LED's - after a few seconds, they'll start blinking again. Release both sticks. Now you're calibrated. - Push the left stick in once more - one beep. This is beginner mode. Now you can take off and it will fly fairly stable. Pushing in the left stick changes the mode: One beep is beginner. the right stick will only tilt the copter a little bit so you don't send it off into the neighbor's yard. Keep it on beginner until you feel comfortable with maneuvering around. Two beeps is intermediate - let's you tilt a bit further, and 3 is expert - even further. I honestly can't tell much of a difference between 2/3, but they increase agility quite a bit over beginner mode. You'll "graduate" from beginner fairly quickly, then you can really zoom around and make sharp turns. At first, I wouldn't try to yaw at all (left or right on the left stick) - it becomes extremely disorienting, even if you can see the LED's to figure out which way you are pointing. While learning, only use yaw to make minor adjustments and only fly "nose out" with the right stick. Try learning in a big flat grassy field rather than your own back yard. I would suggest starting outside and getting comfortable before trying to fly inside. Landing in grass is much kinder to this little guy than running into walls and crashing on tile. Also, order extra props and even a prop guard if this is your first flyer. They'll get bent all out of shape and eventually break - the 4 that it comes with don't go far. I think it took me 8 or 10 flights to really get the hang of it, and another 10-20 flights to get good enough to start breaking it when I slammed into walls :). Little kids LOVE this thing, you can herd a group of 5 or 6 toddlers all around a field by hovering 5 feet above them. The little corner bits that hold the top of the body in place are very fragile - and they are the only thing that keep the motors seated. I actually took mine apart and put a dab of hot glue to anchor all of the motors in place. Otherwise, the motor will "pop up" and the whole thing won't fly level. All 4 of my corner pieces have broken off and the top half of the body has cracked in a few places after some crashes, but it still flies fine after the glue :). I have noticed that as I've given this thing more and more of a beating, overall reliability seems to have gone down. Sometimes it won't link with the remote and I need to restart both to get it to link up. Sometimes, even after calibrating, it seems to wobble around and drift/yaw itself even while I don't touch the remote. Once or twice I've had a minor crash where I throttle down to let it fall, but one motor keeps whirring away - if I hadn't gotten to these crashes quickly to power off, the motor probably would have burned up. HOWEVER - bottom line - for $15 to $20 ready to fly, you absolutely cannot beat the entertainment this thing provides. ... show more

2 hours worth of enjoyment and countless crashes so far and the props are still holding up fine. This little Quad is well worth every penny and if there is any doubt on whether to get it or not, just get it. It flips like a champ and is tiny to boot, and it recharges in roughly 15 minutes with about 5 minutes worth of flight time. I recommend purchasing the crash cage and extra props along with it. It is a sophisticated little machine at a quite reasonable price range. UPDATE: I still adore this quad which is why I am so frustrated about it. It flew very well for me even though it would lose responsiveness after a few crashes until next reboot. I never broke it and it never died on me, so days after my original purchase I ordered two more for gifts. I gave my original to my grandfather because the shipping was taking so long and he lives out of state. 2 months after purchase I contacted the seller to no response at all. I waited another couple days for them to reply and still have yet to receive one. Very shortly after I contacted amazon and got a refund. I am really displeased with this seller after what I thought was going to be another great experience. If I knew that I would receive another quadrocopter and not spend money to wait for nothing to arrive then perhaps I would buy another one. Instead though I am going to stick with Hubsan, they are worth the money you spend even though it is more and have more responsive electronics.     • Fun for Geezers!
This thing is FUN for less than $20! Even if it lasted only an hour two, I would easily have gotten $20 worth of fun out of it. It is still running, so I'm in BONUS fun at this point! No, you don't have to be a teen or 20 something to enjoy this...Heck, I'm in my 60s, so if you are older, go for it! Let's get to the serious. It does not cost much, so don't expect Rolls Royce quality build. That said, I am impressed that the quality is pretty darn good. It is all plastic, but the plastic is reasonably thick and durable. The 'copter case parts are nicely aligned, no burrs, or defects in the plastic detectable by sight or feel. The controller is ergonomically comfortable. The build quality is less than the 'copter, but still good. The bottom and top halves of the case are slightly misaligned, but that is minor. The control sticks have good resistance. However, there is some variability in the control; by this I mean that the throttle stick has spots where it is very sensitive and some where less sensitive...same for the directional stick. The manual was obviously written by somebody who has English as a second language but is much better than some I've read. Some things are explained well, others, you figure out on your own. Recommendations & Hints: I recommend getting the extra blades and blade guard kit. The blades are small and if one comes off in a crash, good luck on finding it. The blade guard kit does a very good job on protecting the 'copter in crashes. BTW, the blade guard attaches to the bottom of the 'copter. The power cord has a small tab on one side; that tab goes on the top side of the copter when plugged in for charging. If there is power loss in one or two blades and you have been flying inside on carpet, have a cat/dog, or long haired teen daughter, check for a carpet fiber or hair wrapped around the blade or motor shaft. Get a couple or more of these, then challenge some family or friends to some aerial drone combat! Bottom line: Does this do what it is supposed to? It's meant to create fun and it does that very well. Would I buy it again? Definitely! Update: OK, it finally gave out a couple of weeks after I wrote the original review. A wire broke from the motor, probably from crashing into things. Maybe could have fixed, but these are so inexpensive, I just bought another! ... show more
