  • HUGE Step up from the Obey 3
Color: Black Style: OBEY4
I do alot of research on products before I buy them. I watch product review videos on here and on youtube because lets face it everyone is trying to get the most bang for their buck. I was just about to pull the trigger on the obey 3 then I saw the obey 4 and found a video on it. Along with DJing I help a friend of mine do live sound and lighting. The number one thing that got me to go with this is being able to control 4 seperate led lights at one time. Its very easy to set up the lights to do this and just in messing with it a little I know its going to be a big help this year not only for live sound gigs but for expanding my up-lighting for weddings. For someone who doesn't understand DMX this (along with the obey3) is the perfect controller to make it look like you do. I would tell anyone looking for a simple light controller that this is the one for you. Please feel free to comment on my review and ask questions I will do my best to answer PDQ. ... show more

  • Great item, but bad deal!
Color: Black Style: OBEY4
Purchased this item. Packaging was obviously opened prior to being shipped. In fact, item was either used or badly packed to begin with. Unit would not stay powered-up; the AC cord would not lodge into place. Due to time constraints, I purchased same unit new from local music store, and the new one works like a charm. To Amazon's credit, the return was as flawless and easy to use as their front-end purchases. No hassle. Prompt credit back to my credit card. It's shame this item was shipped in the condition it was, but stuff happens. IMPORTANT NOTE to Obey 4 purchasers. Chauvet has improved the construction of the port where the AC adapter plugs in; it now has a steel ring around the opening, that helps prevent the adapter cord from coming loose. The unit is a must-have item for gigging bands needing a small light "show". If you buy the Obey 4, with any intent of using it regularly, be sure the AC-cord port has the new steel ring around the opening....OTHERWISE....the internal part of the power supply connection will likely be damaged from the AC-cord vibrating loose, and you'll be returning it. ... show more

  • It will obey you.
Color: Black Style: OBEY4
This is the second Chauvet controller I have bought. My first purchase was the Obey 3 which is a fine controller except that you can't control individual lights. Naturally I grew out of the Obey 3 when I learned more about DMX programming and lighting controllers. If you are new to lights, sometimes you may want some lights to be static or working as wash lights while others are chasing or fading between colors. This controller would allow you to have four independent settings for four plus lights. Some controllers have limits on how many lights they can support. for instance, the Obey 40 can only control 12 lights. Some people complain that these controllers feel cheap, but they are cheap, yet, they function very well. The material cost is low so that it price can be low for the customer. My Obey 3 worked perfectly everytime I used it, and I have the same expectation for this one. Pay attention to the DMX channels on the back of the controller, another nice feature that Chauvet includes by printing basic instructions on the underside of the controller for quick reference. The fixture controls don't follow the typical 1-17, 18-35 pattern. Note: when you plug and turn this controller on, it has no lights that indicate it is operating until you hit a fixture button. I messed around with this thing trying to make it work for about ten minutes before I discovered this. I almost sent it back. The LEDs will flicker when it turns, but that is it. Once you activate a fixture, things start happening. My only question is whether the fourth fader will control Amber and white. The manual does not say outside of the fact that it will control white. ... show more

  • Highly Recommended for beginning DMX Users
Color: Black Style: OBEY4
The Chauvet Obey 4 unit allows you to run 4 different fixtures (or sets of fixtures with the same DMX code) in 4 channel mode with each one doing something different. For those with some knowledge of DMX you will understand that this means you can control 4x8 fixtures for a total of 32 lights without a repeater. The unit has auto RGB fade, preset colors, manual RGB, an auto setting where all 4 fixtures are doing something different, color macros, sound activation that actually is sensitive enough to use... and a strobe setting that, similarly to it's little brother , the Obey 3, you must slow down to the zero setting before you can turn it off. If you de-select a fixture while it is doing something it will continue to perform that effect (including sound activation!) until you re-select it and change the settings. The unit does not have "tap-sync" nor does it store "scenes" so you will have to re-program it each time you shut it down. (spring for the Obey 10 or higher if you need that.) This one works great for a mobile DJ who has up to 32 fixtures that work in 3 or 4 channel mode. ... show more
