Charlie's Soap, which is actually an environmentally-friendly detergent, is my favorite. I've been using it for 14 years. The huge bucket of it I bought years ago is almost gone so I recently reordered a smaller package. I do wish the smaller packages still came in the recycled plastic jars instead of the ziplock bags, but fortunately I had saved one of the old jars so I've poured it into that. One tablespoon (the included scoop) does a full load so it's not as expensive as it might first seem. It is very low sudsing and rinses well, once you've gotten all the OLD detergent residues out of your clothes and machine. Some of the negative reviews by new users are likely because of old detergent residues that are still being pulled from clothes and remain on the fabric at first. The user tips on the back of the package state to first clean your washing machine by washing a load of rags in hot water with one scoop of Charlie's. (Liquid fabric softener is especially prone to leave a film or scum down in the machine.) Then allow up to three washings of clothing for removing all the old detergent residues. I don't recall seeing any white residues or "spots" on our clothes, but I do recall lots of suds the first few times because of the old detergent. Later there won't be. Wash cycle water should be about 55 degrees or warmer, as very cold water may not dissolve Charlie's well. (My cold tap water is warmer than that but yours might not be. Water at 55 degrees feels cool.) Also it is fragrance-free, so if you like scented clothes you might not like that. Those and the initial "break in" to remove old residues are about the only things that might be inconveniences, although I don't think they are. Charlie's leaves clothes soft and smelling clean but not scented. I've also used their liquid laundry detergent but decided to use the powder for some reason. Both are good. Their liquid multi-purpose household cleaner is also the best I've ever used. As a college student seeking a clean lifestyle, this laundry powder is perfect. Stains are always removed and my clothes are fresh. Plus the amount needed per load is small compared to the other brands I've used, yet that small amount does the work well! Definitely worth the purchase.

I used to be the type of person that would buy expensive laundry soap to have the best smelling and clean clothes. I ran across this soap and decided to give it a try since one of my Children developed a rash and I was sure it was from the detergent I had been using. I decided to go all natural and this one ranked the highest. I gave it a try and have not switched back to what I originally had been using. I can't express the greatness of this laundry soap and how well it cleans our clothes. There's no scent And that's a bummer but it cleans our clothes amazing!!!!! It only takes one little scoop for a nice large load. Clothes come out so clean and without harsh chemicals. I am so proud I made the switch! I use fabric softener and that gives me the nice fragrance I had been looking for in my clean clothes. I will never switch back to liquid detergents or any other powder soaps again. I used a 1/4 scoop and 2 gallons of water to soak my bra in and my bra came out looking so much brighter, lighter bc it took out all the old detergent cleaners that had been building up time after time I washed it with the liquid detergent.
