I had been reviewing kindles for a long time because I am unable to read regular books (even with my reading glasses) because the print is too small. The kindle scribe caught my attention with its ability to take notes, highlight and have a notebook section. But I kept delaying purchase because it is a big purchase. I ended up pulling the trigger when I received a couple gift cards for my birthday which covered half the expense. The Kindle Scribe did not disappoint. I absolutely love it. I can adjust the text size to account for my eyesight, and I can adjust the light brightness. I find myself reading daily again. It is lightweight, easy to take with me (so much easier than multiple books in my bag). It is very much like reading a book page. Bonus: You can read in bed without needing an extra light on!! I have used it for notes, and it has the capability to "quick send" that (as a pdf) to my email address on file. The only negative that I have seen thus far is that not all of the content size is adjustable. Settings are still in the small text. That would be nice to see larger (future feature!). Okay, this thing definitely exceeded my expectations, and I'm honestly kind of shocked by how much I actually love this thing. And one of the things I love about the kindle line as a whole is the battery life, and the scribe is no exception. I was messing around with sketching in the notebook for about an hour and a half only lost about 6 percent. Very nice! I know writing is more taxing on the battery, so I know that reading will last even longer. For me, the screen size is perfect (for both books and comics) in my opinion. While I love and still use my Paperwhite, there were some instances where I really wished I could have just a little bit more real estate. I know it's a small thing, but it's nice having an entire page fit on the page! It's also a lot snappier than my aging Paperwhite - turning pages is a remarkably quick by comparison! Speaking of stupid conveniences, the feel of the pens/pencil/marker is so satisfying. I don't know how else to say it, but it makes writing more enjoyable somehow. Maybe it's because I've spent so much time typing lately, but going back to handwriting is very nostalgic and (for me, at least) gets my creativity flowing in a way that typing just can't. And as an artist, it feels good to just sketch a little doodle in the corner, or add a starburst around your text to make it stand out more. I can put fancy little outlines on there as well, and add a bit of shading with the highlighter. I only wish it had the ability to set up layers (even one of them would help a ton!) or have different styles for each page in your notebook. (It'd be nice to alternate between a blank page and a sheet of looseleaf!) Either way, this thing works like a dream and I'm enjoying it far more than I was expecting to, which is why I felt compelled to write this review and recommend it to anyone wanting to spice up their notes. It also works fantastic as a journal too, which has provided plenty of unexpected therapeutic benefits as well. 10/10 product, easy. Best of all, I got a refurbished model along with a used leather case - both showed up looking like they were brand new. Today was a good day! ... show more

The reader is like having a bigger Kindle paper-white. Works great. However, I bought this for the Scribe features. I use it to write by hand and transfer to text. With just a little practice on my part it does this beautifully. I had to tweak my handwriting a bit. Once I did, the results are amazing. You send the handwriting by page or document to your email, which provides a link to the converted text in a Note. It’s easy to cut and paste the note text into word. Love this! I’m still trying out features. But for this author/grandmother the ability to write in the dark, lying next to a sleeping child… is priceless. One thing I wish worked, was the voice view screen reader. The device won’t find my Bluetooth hearing aid, or many of the earphones I tried. I got it to find an older headphone that I had, but then the functionality of the reader was poor. I use this feature to read my documents/books back to me as part of the editing process. The combination of Kindle app and iPhone accessibility feature is great for this. So I was hopeful. Unfortunately this feature isn’t usable on the Scribe for more than a small bit of text at a time when I need chapters. It was extremely frustrating. This feature would be a great addition for a later model. But the lack doesn’t keep me from 5 stars. However, if you have impaired sight and want this to read more than a few words to you, I would not recommend. ... show more
