Description

Catskill Craftsmen has become the nation's leading manufacturer of ready-to- assemble domestic hardwood kitchen islands, carts, and work-centers. Catskill Craftsmen manufactured items are made from naturally self-sustaining, non- endangered North American hardwoods, primarily Northern Yellow Birch. Lumber is purchased from area sawmills, then dried, manufactured, and packaged on site. All sawdust, shavings and waste materials generated during the manufacturing process is converted into wood pellet fuel, and used to heat homes. This is the Grand-Daddy of workcenters. Features a 2 inch thick butcher block top with a bull nose edge and rounded corners. The top extends the depth by 10 inches, and the entire width of 36 inches when the drop leaf is up. The 9.5 inch deep drawer has full extension glides and a towel bar handle. Additional features include two towel bars, a slatted shelf, and locking caster wheels. This workcenter is made of solid Northeastern Hardwood and ships with an oil finish.

  • Worth the money and the effort to put it together.
This is a nice piece. Putting it together is not too bad if you take your time and follow the instructions carefully. You can get it done in one night. It took me about 4 hours to get it done. That included unpacking the boxes (2); identifying and taking inventory of all the pieces and hardware; reading the instructions all the way through before doing anything else. Make sure you understand how the fasteners work before you attempt assembly. The fasteners are unique (I've never seen them before). There are three parts to the fastener. Examine one set to see how they are going to fit together before you use one on the actual wood. The instructions tell you to screw the post down until you hit wood and then back it out one half turn. I found that by doing this the post was too short and had to be backed out further. I remedied the situation with the other fasteners by screwing the post down just until the last thread disappeared into the hole and this worked better. When you tighten the nut it should turn rather easily. If you are struggling to get it tight, the post is in the hole too far and must be backed out. Do it one half turn at a time and retry until the nut screws into the post fairly easy. It should not be a struggle. If you do this right you will know. You may need some help as you get towards the end of the project. The drawer slides are a little tricky because you have to line then up just right and fasten each with two screws. Take your time and don't attach them until you have the slides set just right. You don't want to screw this step up. You can use a third screw but you will have to drill a pilot hole. I just used two screws on each slide and the drawer works perfectly. If over time it becomes necessary to add a third screw I will take care of it, but so far no problem. This is a solid piece of furniture and looks beautiful. It should last a lifetime if put together correctly and is taken care of. Buy some mineral oil that is made for butcher blocks and treat it four times initially and then at least once each week. The drawer is huge and solid. I love the drop leaf when I need the extra space. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Well built, sturdy and made in the USA.
My wife and I needed a mobile cutting/baking table for our kitchen and after looking at several different brands, styles and reading the reviews online, we choose this model and company. This unit is made entirely of hardwoods with the exception of the drawer bottom which is plywood. Our drawer bottom was damaged in shipping. The assembly instructions tell you to call the company in case of damaged or missing parts. I called them about the damaged drawer bottom and they were very prompt to respond, very sympathetic and immediately shipped us a new replacement part at no cost! WARNING: This work center IS NOT a cheap lightweight flimsy piece of crap made of imported products! Because of the fact it is made of all hardwood construction, it is very heavy and comes with heavy duty casters to handle the weight. The assembly instructions are simple but you must pay attention to the details and follow all of the instructions carefully noting the placement of the pre-drilled hole positions of the individual pieces during assembly. One person can figure approximately 3 hours to assemble this but 2 people should take less time and it will take 2 people to lift the finished product. The wood will definitely need to be oiled and it is easier to oil the wood as it is being assembled. Some of the screws during the assembly process, I felt, could have been longer and some of the underside metal pieces have very sharp edges. Overall, we are very pleased with this table, the extra shelf space underneath and the size of the drawer for storing utensils. ... show more

  • AWESOME Workcenter made in the USA!
This is AWESOME! Very well made. My son put this together for me in about 3 hrs. Just watch their on site videos for instructions as to the bastion system and other tips and follow the paper directions to the "T", step by step. Very excellent craftsmanship, very solid. The shelf beneath stores my appliances, even my tall food processor. I'm so glad to have this. I can put all my most used appliances on the bottom shelf getting them off my counter and no longer need to climb a ladder at 65 to reach those previously stored over the cabinets. What's more, the huge drawer is deep enough to store all the attachments for my mixer and food processor. While oiling the all the wood parts (recommended before assembly), I was disappointed to find that the right side panel had a split at the groove for the drawer slide. I called the company and they were courteous and had no problem with shipping out a new panel. Nice to find a company that stands behind their work and products and a plus is that it's make in America. This product is worth every penny. There are even videos on how to care for your wood products, cutting boards and the carts and islands. Be sure to oil (I used food grade mineral oil, available at any drug store) all wood parts before assembly. I rubbed all pieces down with oil and let them sit overnight. Count up all your parts to make sure nothing is missing. I did have 18 screws missing and just purchased them at the local hardware store because I really didn't want to wait for the company to send them. I'm sure they would have with no problem. I couldn't be happier with this Workcenter. You will not be disappointed with the product or the prompt, courteous service. ... show more
