  • Amazing!
I would like to start out by saying this is the first and only G-Shock watch that I own. I recently began looking for a new watch and stumbled upon this model of watch and fell in love with the style. First off keep in mind that when you purchase this watch it will be imported from Japan, this means you have to add a couple weeks to the delivery time for customs to do their thing. The watch is not as big as I anticipated on my 7.5 inch wrist. The import version of this watch comes with a carbon fiber band with a metal strap keeper. When positioned correct on the strap, the strap keeper stays in place. The features of this watch are very in depth, and going through the manual will take a bit of time. One big help for me was the gentleman who has a full users guide and video review on YouTube by the username fwupow. (Just search YouTube for GW-9400 and he will pop up as the first couple results.) That saved me a ton of time and possible confusion. The complication of this watch may turn some people off. The negative display is at times hard to read, but the back light works extremely well. I prefer the "blacked out" style of this watch, the lettering on the bezel is all black except for G-Shock and the arrow pointing to the sensor button, in real life it is more of a gray color and not as white as it appears in the picture. The four screws on the face and the illumination button are also "blacked out". In all honesty this watch is packed with more features than I will ever need. It is constructed well and looks awesome. It is a little big but not very heavy when compared to a watch made with metal. The complicated features are easy to manage once learned. The negative display may be hard to read at times but the look of the watch completely makes up for that. Overall I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. As I understand this negative display black version of the watch is not going to be available for purchase in the USA, so if this is the style you like then you should pick it up now, as the price has already gone up as of my purchase. In the future this could change and if so I will edit my review accordingly. I will also be making frequent periodic updates to my review as time passes to account for any issues I may have with durability or features, and checking to answer any questions that may arise. Update (1-19-14): Over the last week the weather has been extremely varied. From clear, warmer skies one day to windy, snowing, and cold. Over these days I had a chance to put the barometer to the test. In my opinion it is extremely accurate and someone with more intimate knowledge of how to predict the weather with a barometer would be able to put it to better use than I have. However, with my limited knowledge, I was able to accurately predict the changes in the weather, which is pretty cool in my opinion. Update (2-8-2014): After breaking the watch in I have noticed the metal strap keeper that keeps the excess strap from flapping in the breeze tends to fall out of its preferred position sometimes. To fix this I put a small square of masking tape on the underside of the strap keeper. You cant see that its there and it gives the strap a rough surface to hang on to. Since making my modification I have not had any issues with the strap keeper falling out of place. All things considered I am extremely satisfied with this watch and have no complaints as of yet. ... show more

  • A True Masterpiece !!
This watch is without question one of the most stunning, gorgeous, bold, masculine, elegant, practical watches on the market today. I'd where this watch with a tuxedo or at a table with colleagues sporting $15K+ fancy masterpieces of the Swiss art of watching-making I'm a long-time watch junkie. I have owned many far more expensive and "upscale" watches. But for the past 15 years I have only worn G Shocks. Of late I had turned to the original style type like the new Casio GW-S5600-1JF http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B003OICZN0/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_S_img?_encoding=UTF8&colid=31DTY93MDBJ3K&coliid=I2PID7V32Y31RU, but my version was so basic it didn't show the time, date, and date. I did like the non-snob appeal of it's tech/geekish original design. Pure function - solar, atomic time. As soon as I saw this one I knew that one day I would own one. While I don't know of any other other G-Shock, or any other of the several watches I own, that looks better on my wrist, over the past month since buying this watch the reverse face has at times been annoying. In some situations it is difficult to read without the use of the backlight. The backlight on this watch is outstanding and in dim to dark conditions the auto light works very welI, but during the day it is sometimes required to press the EL button to read the time. While this watch has a fantastic appearance, this is not a good choice for a professional who requires an instantaneous reading of the time or elapsed time under any condition while having to do things with both hands, e.g., a paramedic. I still love this watch for its awesome look and extreme functionality and it remains my favorite watch to wear.. Neither my life or profession require frequently knowing the exact time instantly under any and all circumstances, so I am still very happy with this watch. One of my all time favorite G-Shocks was the Casio GW-S5600-1JF, the watch worn by the crew in the early Stargate TV Series. It was the biggest watch Seiko had made pre-1995 and was stainless steel. So I was surprised that this watch was heavier. I had expected the carbon fibre to make it lighter. But it's a very comy watch. All I was looking for was a solar, atomic, time/date/day with a stop watch and I wound up with this. But at my age if I can by a little thrill for $300 it's well worth it :-) The instructions are of course in Japanese. • Low Profile Super Watch
It is true that the numbers are bit dimmer on the watch when you are looking at them in person compared to the product pictures. However, they are not so dark that you cannot read the display, and I feel the low profile black screen looks much better than the standard rangeman watch display. It has a feature that will automatically turn on the illumination if you move your watch towards your face if you really feel it is too dark. I love this watch. It is much lighter that it appears and is packed with features. The carbon fiber band is very comfortable and feels solid. Every night I put the watch on my night stand by the window and it updates the Atomic Time every night. I live in South Texas so I am outside of the intermediate range of the Colorado signal and I still have no problems. Overall I would definitely recommend if you want a tough, low profile, and extremely useful watch. ... show more
