Born from a dream of "creating a watch that never breaks." It was over 30 years ago, a CASIO engineer won the battle against the laws of nature. He designed a watch that would resist centrifugal and impact forces, as well as high water pressure. Since then, the name G-SHOCK has become a byword for independence and pushing the limits. G-SHOCK watches are the most durable digital and analog-digital watches in the industry, trusted by military personnel, law enforcement, surfers and outdoor enthusiasts around the world. Along with this, G-SHOCK is highly touted in the fashion world, worn by icons in hip-hop, sports, and design. With limited edition collaborations being released often, you can always find a G-SHOCK that matches your personality and style.

  • Everything I wanted in a watch, and more!
Color: Black
For the record, I am by no standards a "watch guy," and have never been. But recently, I have wanted a watch but wanted a watch that would be rugged yet also show the day, day/month, and time, along with a few timers and such, and this watch has ALL OF THAT and more! My mom bought me this watch for Christmas. I knew I wanted a watch, so I did some research on Amazon and knew I wanted a Gshock. After lots of researching, and a lot of review reading, I told her to get me this Atomic Gshock...and it was the best choice for me! I've had it for almost 3 weeks now and I absolutely love it. Being a solar-powered watch, it is a little picky but just read the manual and you will know how to make it work great. Basically, just make sure it gets some sun light every now and then, and put it by the windowsill at night, and your good to go! Durability/Reliability: I have been on two backpacking trips so far, both of which temperatures ranged from 30 degrees during the day and 10 degrees at night. With the temperatures, chopping wood, being by the fire, hiking, snowing, getting it wet...this thing survived everything so far. I even put it in the snow overnight to see if it would survive the cold/wet, and it did. This was about a week ago and it is still going strong. It is obvious that these Gshocks can go through a lot, which is good for me as I am frequently doing outdoor activities such as hunting, hiking, kayaking, and shooting. Oh, which by the way, this Gshock handles the recoil if guns fine. I have been to the shooting range 2 times since I have had this watch, and it has been fine with numerous calibers all the way up to a .357 mag revolver. Comfortness: This watch is very comfortable. The band is "resin", which I believe is a very hard/durable rubber. Some people complain of some Gshock bands being uncomfortable, this watch is ANYTHING BUT. I have worn it everyday for 2½ weeks and at no point have I find it to be annoying or uncomfortable. At the same time, I think some people wear watches too tight. In the manual, it says it should be snug but loose enough to wear you can slide a finger between the band and your skin, which is exactly how mine is worn. Appearance/size: I personally think the size and look of the watch is perfect, no too small and not too big. I like how the time size is big, so is the day. This makes it super easy when I need the date for a document or the time if someone asks. I get A LOT of compliments on it, especially since I never wore a watch, so now when friends or coworkers see it on my wrist, they immediately say, "nice watch! when did you get that?" The look is rugged, which goes along well with my wardrobe (outdoorsman), yet also goes well with nice outfits. I don't think you could pull off wearing this watch with a suit, as you would want more of a stainless steel "nice" watch for that, but hey, this watch does look THAT good that I would try wearing it with a suit :D The watch has a bright LED background light with you can turn on manually, for 1 or 3 seconds for it to be on for. This watch also has a cool "auto light" mode, which when your in low-light, the watch will turn on the background LED light when you bring the watch up to your face to see the time (must be 45 degrees). This "auto light mode" can be turned on and off. This is a really cool feature, which I find using frequently at night, especially when I am outside chopping firewood, fishing, hiking etc. The three circular indicators on top are (from left to right) - amount of solar energy watch has (high, med, low), middle circle has the different timers, stopwatches, alarm settings, and the right circle is seconds by 2's (2 seconds, 4, seconds, 6 seconds, and so on to 10). All of these settings inside the circle itself will light up if they are "on," which is awesome as you can easily see if any alarms are on and how much solar energy your watch has. So right now as I look at my watch, the "high" setting is lit up so I know that my watch has a "high" charge of solar energy. I have one (of 5 possible) alarms on, so one of my alarm settings is lit up as well. At work, I put the 'mute' setting on, so that will light up as well if it is on. If any are off, they do not light up. Now one important thing is when I say "light up," I do not mean they literally light up as if you were to turn on the LED background light. I mean they "bold" if you will. If you look at the images of the watch, you will see some of the settings on the 3 circular indicators at the top of the watch will be "bold" if they are on. This is what I am talking about. Overall: I rate this watch a 5 out of 5 for the almost 3 weeks I have had it. I thought I would wear it every now and then, but I find myself wearing it day in and day out, to work, going hunting, watching tv, everything. I love the way it looks and I love that it has the time/day/month and seconds, as well as the 3 circular indicators, all very easy to see. One thing I did not go into was the numerous alarm functions, stopwatch, timers and all that jazz. Yes, it has all of that, but I don't use them. All I use is the alarm settings, but I think i will use the other functions in the future. This watch is AWESOME, and if you want everything that I mentioned in my review in a watch (reliability, durability, nice appearance, solar-power, comfortability), then I highly suggest you get this watch! Let's just put it this way - if this watch breaks, screen cracks, or anything of the above in the future, I will be sure to buy another one in a hearbeat. ... show more

  • Better than the DW5600 but not the best G-Shock
Color: Black
I really get the love behind this model now after trying it out for a few days, but sadly cannot say I can raise this up to one of my favorites. The darn triple eye graph setup is too impractical to make sense to me, along with the prominent light button lip. Okay I could have lived with the triple graph too as some design non-sense, but the light button and lip just plain block the vision of the screen until it is near perfectly parallel to eyes. Using the DW6900 accordingly requires you to fully square up the watch and your arm to meet your eyes rather than being able to get a quick read from various angles as you can on most other G-Shocks. I get now that despite the impracticalities, why this is the chosen model for military. It’s cheap, useable, and tough. It is far from a winner for practical design, and that’s why more elite units will get the Garmins. It is better than the DW5600 simply because the predecessor, while even more practical from a visual standpoint, is completely handicapped by the recessed adjust button which makes it unusable for quick adjustments and resets to the timer and alarm. Despite the improvement in the tactile usability, it’s a step backwards in visual functionality. The fact is, the triple graph takes up way too much space than it should. If you look instead at a GWM500/530, the overall dial diameter is much smaller, yet the numbers are not only bigger but much more readable from multiple angles. That is because while it also has a triple graph, they are really tiny. And because they aren’t there to give you time critical information, it can be afforded to minimize them and push them far up so that when you do have time you can get a closer look. Instead the actual time you need is prioritized. You also don’t have a silly lip blocking your view. The DW6900 thus prioritizes design for looks than for function. The solar and MB6 of this GW6900 make a more compelling argument for value but then you lose the absolute cheapness in price of the DW6900. Disregarding all of the above, I really do like the shape and iconography of this GW6900 model. I think it really does look super cool. At the end though, I can’t get over the impracticality of these design hindrances to want to own it over my other far more practical options like the GD350. Okay if they flushed down the light button lip to match the rest of the rim around the dial I could accept the triple graph size, so there is potential if Casio would move on from the nostalgia. And nostalgia is what causes its predecessor, the DW5600, to similarly be handicapped. ... show more

  • Good if you have good eyes!
Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. This is a great everyday watch at a reasonable budget. Below are some of the things I liked and disliked about it. Pros: * Atomic/Multiband 6 - with this feature your watch will set its time each night automatically so your time will always be up to date (even your DST value depending on your location). This is also a feature you can turn off if you chose. * Display is very easy to tell the time with. I also like the different color sub dials that just give the dial a pop of color. * Buttons are responsive and easy to press. * 4 alarms and a snooze alarm * Backlight is nice and bright. It covers the whole screen evenly thus making the whole watch functional at night time. * It looks and feels good on the wrist. The watch is a perfect size, not too big or too small. I have 6 inch wrists and it fits me like a glove. * I like the time mode display option which lets you view both your current time and world time all day long if you choose to. Cons: * The alarm only goes off for 10 seconds. Not sure why Casio can't change this to make it go a little longer. * The sub dials are so small they are hard to read while part of the sub dial is controlling which feature. I have to pull out my magnifying glass to use most of the sub dial features. * Like most other Casio watches the max back light time is only 3 seconds. Again I wish Casio would allow for a longer duration. All and all, it is a great G-Shock option with all the features you need without being overly complicated to use. Hope the review helped! ... show more
