  • STOP! This is the one you're looking for right here! UPDATE: 9 months later...
Size: Large
I wanted to use this for awhile before I posted a review. I can't say enough good things about it! It feels much softer than a saddle, but certainly more structure than a bareback pad. I have a very high strung walking horse and needed the lip on the back to help keep me in place, as well as the textured seat...I have no problem riding him with this saddle! The handle is handy for carrying, removing from the horse, and hanging on if you feel the need. It's got more attachment points for saddle pads, bags, etc than you can see in the pictures. My horse seems very comfortable with it as well. I can feel his back flex while I'm in the saddle, so it's good for communicating with the horse, but still has the support and feel of a soft saddle tree. My only regret is not finding it sooner... UPDATE: 9/30/17 It only gets better(= I do alot of trail riding and this saddle has gotten quite a workout. We recently did a very strenuous ride in Alabama and some treacherous trails. My horse slipped down a rock embankment with me on top. One of my stirrups was torn off. I contacted the seller and they sent me a new stirrup chassis within a week! Aside from THAT...I've had this damned thing 9 months and didn't realize how easy it "adjusted"...I had no idea that the whole thing takes on seconds to pull apart into three pieces...the seat unbuckles/velcros off, then the stirrup chassis (which you can move forward/backward for comfort!), then the base part. Everything velcros/buckles right back together for a very sturdy saddle. My only complaint used to be that the stirrups were set too far back...what a retard that I didn't realize it was a 30 second fix! Simply pull apart...reposition...reassemble. So easy! Again...I have used this saddle on some crazy trails (with breast collar) and have been super happy with it! ... show more

  • Saddle will easily slip sideways & not safe enough
Size: Medium
We bought this saddle in hopes of helping an older friend who is now having a problem lifting both her heavy Western and Australian trail saddles. We put it on her horse, an average sized, average bodied walking horse, and she used a mounting block to mount. The saddle didn’t feel secure when just slow walking on level ground. When she went to dismount, the saddle slipped nearly a quarter turn with her & the only way to fix it was to un-do the cinch/girth and retack her horse to adjust it to the top center of his back again. This is a horse with adequate withers and not a heavy, wide, round bodied horse by no means. Our worry would be that if the horse took a bad step, stumbled, or even shook his body, that our friend might be at risk of getting injured or killed on a trail. So our search continues for another inexpensive light-weight saddle that stays in place on the horse’s back for mounting and dismounting, with no worries of stability... of it slipping to the side of the horse. ... show more

  • This is a great low priced light weight tree-less saddle for when you ...
Size: Medium
This is a great low priced light weight tree-less saddle for when you want to ride with not so much fuss and when your horse perhaps wants or need s break from a heavy saddle or your saddle doesn't fit right, or you don't want to deal with a saddle or want more of a bareback experience. It is sort of like riding bareback, in that you can feel the horse's back almost as well as you can with a bareback pad, but you also have a bit more structure from the raised pommel and the cantle. And, you have stirrups. Cheap plastic western stirrups, but they are stirrups. I may, as other reviewers on other sites have done, replace them with sturdier stirrups, perhaps trail glide. The top is 2.5", if you wish to replace them. There is no girth/cinch with this saddle, and I bought a 32" cinch and found it to be not the right size. The cinching is western, and I am used to English, and all of my girths are English, so I had to buy one for this saddle. I did buy a tacky pad to go under it, and the way the saddle goes down with my weight, and I only weigh 118, I would advise that you want a pad. Others advised the tacky pad as a help to keep the saddle from sliding. It helps also to have a breast strap, but I don't have one yet. The saddle itself is very comfortable for me, the rider, and I can foresee really enjoying it for short rides, on the trail for short rides, workout rides in the arena, and rides in the winter when I don't want to deal with stiff cold leather. I live in Minnesota and although we have an indoor arena, it is not heated and my tack is stored in a locker that is also not heated. I ride with bitless bridles in the winter so that I don't have to warm a bit. I was hoping to note that my horse loved the saddle also, but my mare had not been ridden in three months and it was difficult to tell if she noticed the saddle that much or not. She seemed to move easily with it, but my mare does not love to be ridden and this saddle didn't change her mind. Still, I checked and it did not feel to be pinching her withers despite not having a tree, and it seemed to be giving her spine good clearance. I have read on other sites where people have cut out a wider channel for the spine in the saddle, and depending on how it goes, I could see maybe doing that. My gelding is off of work right now due to an injury but I am curious to see how he works under this saddle. For the money, I think it is a nice piece of equipment to have around for shorter rides and for winter riding and as an extra saddle. The price is easy, I paid 260.00 and it weighs 6 pounds. I have arthritis and when I am flaring, my hands and wrists are affected. This saddle makes it easy for me to tack up even when flaring. It is synthetic so easy to care for. It looks decent and better than a lot of synthetic saddles out there. ... show more

  • Very Comfortable saddle!
Size: Large
Very Comfortable saddle. It fits my hard to fit haflinger mare beautifully. When we first opened it it seemed like it was bridging pretty bad so we took the seat off the pad pet and bent them both completely in half to make them more “horse shaped” and it fit great after that, it was just stiff from shipping. The only down slide is how slippery it is, I got a non slip shoulder relief cinch for my mare and I just tighten it as much as possible then lunge/round pen heramd tighten it again before getting on I also use a non slip saddle pad and that seems to do the trick. I would not recommend using the stirrups to mount as the saddle does have a tendency to move, you defiantly have to be a balanced rider. I also love how you can feel the horses movements while riding and it think it gives me a better sense as to what she is feeling while I ride. ... show more
