  • PERFECT!
Great product and peace of mind. My mother, in her 80's got sick and lost quite a bit of strength and balance during her illness. I was afraid she'd fall getting off the toilet. We didn't want the type that attaches to the toilet, in fear that if she lost balance it could put stress on the toilet rocking it off it's seal. So...this is a great option. It's Adjustable and VERY sturdy. She found it so helpful that we ordered a 2nd one for the other bathroom. It's also nice that it just lifts out for cleaning. She is a bit self conscious, and wanted it to be removable from 1/2 bath during family gatherings. Contrary to a couple reviewers who indicated that they had issues with the lid staying up...we had NO problem with this. We recently changed her toilets to low-flow, prior to getting the Carex Safety Rail; but they look like a regular toilet. The Carex rail is made with 1 inch metal tubing, so you would need to have at least 1" plus the depth of your cover & seat for the seat to stay upright. We have 4.5 inches between the front of the tank and the back of the cover/seat. In our case, our seat & cover are a total of 2.25 inches thick. So, 1 (pipe thickness) + 2.25 (seat/cover thickness) = 3.25; which means we have plenty of room. Because the review about the seat turned out to be an unwarranted concern I had, I've attached some pictures, to show you what it looks like with seat up or down. LOL! I can't believe I am posting pictures of my mother's toilet. LOL! Someone asked if it was foldable for traveling....No, it is not foldable; however, there are just 4 clips that hold it together as a study frame; they are easily removable; just make sure you put them in a ziplock and tape them to the frame; otherwise you could be "up the creek without a paddle" when you want to reassemble it. I highly recommend the Carex Bathroom Safety Rail...the stand-alone product; not any that attach to the toilet bowl. ... show more

  • Deserves 5 stars of more!
So happy to have purchased this! Recovering from double knee replacement surgery. Sturdy, well made, easy to adjust, nice looking. Like the feature that it fits over the toilet (not attached to it) After using this I can see where if I had purchased the type that attaches to the toilet seat it may have loosened the wax ring by now due to putting all your arm weight on it to lift yourself up. I would highly recommend this item! It comes with easy push off locking pins that can be removed to fold sides in to store. Can also double as a support to stand up with. Super nice! ... show more

  • Just what we needed...
My wife is having foot surgery and can't put weight on her foot during recovery, so we wanted something to help with getting off the toilet. Her walker was too tall for this and was more likely to topple over if she tried to use it to raise herself. I didn't want one that attached to the toilet itself, as it was more work to install and could possibly damage the toilet, plus the front support legs were more likely to be wobbly, as they had no side support other than the arms that are going to be bearing the weight. This unit is perfect. It fits around the toilet (but in front of the tank, so there is no issue with wall clearance), does not interfere with raising or lowering the lid or seat or make it more difficult for anyone else to use the toilet. In our case it also does not interfere with the toilet paper roll, but that is totally dependent on where your roll is mounted. It is very sturdy and not wobbly--in addition to the arms themselves, there is an additional brace on each side and a strong double brace at the rear. If yours is wobbly, check the following: 1) Is your floor level? 2) Did you install the four snap-clips properly (they must be pushed in all the way until they snap in place snugly against the metal leg all the way around the clip)? 3) Are the hex heads of the four bolts properly seated fully into the hexagonal openings and not just resting on the surface of the leg? 4) Although the four screws which were pre-installed were already tight, I tightened mine a bit more just to be sure. ... show more

  • SAFE
I purchased this for my mother who needs double hip replacement surgery. She is currently cane-assisted and needs help sitting down and getting up from the toilet, but doesn't want to have to call someone for help each time. Independence, modesty/privacy are important. She is 5'2" and about 180 (petite and chubby). This toilet rail is adjustable in height and suits everything she needed in a toilet-assist rail. I had comfort height toilets installed for her which also have the elongated bowl. This rail is absolutely perfect and suits all of these things - her height, the toilet height, the toilet bowl shape, and it fits around the back of her and it isn't narrow to the point that it touches her hips on either side once she's seated (it isn't too narrow). It also fits across the back of the toilet, down low between the propped-open toilet seat lid and the tank. I was afraid the metal brace that goes across the back of this rail might scratch my toilet tank but it doesn't; it doesn't even touch the tank or the seat lid. When you prop the toilet seat lid open against the tank, there's a gap at the bottom between the lid and the tank and that's where the back metal brace goes across from the left handle to the right. I love this thing and don't even use it. Most importantly, SHE loves it... and it's very, very helpful to her. That's what matters. ... show more
