  • Good height
not bad for the price

  • Great cane
This is a great solid, cane made from a quality wood. I have several canes and this just became my favourite one. It is much sturdier than any of my others and I find I do not care for the adjustable metal variety of canes at all.

  • Pleasantly surprised.
I don't typically write product reviews, but after having read a few negative reviews of this item, I found myself pleasantly surprised with the product and wanted to share my thoughts. I very much like the cane for the following reasons: 1. It arrived earlier than expected...3 days earlier. 2. It's a very solid cane...it has a 1" diameter, and it's fairly heavy. 3. It's rated for weights between a maximum of 250-300 lbs. The included pics show both the rating on the cane's sticker and the rating on the included materials. Which one is correct? I'm going with what's on the sticker. 4. The finish is nice. I wasn't expecting an immaculate finish, but again, I was pleasantly surprised--very dark finish that doesn't look cheap. It looks nice. I "travel" with a treasured family heirloom cane that usually stays in my truck, for trips out in public. I wanted this cane for my "house cane," to keep in the house. However, this one is quickly becoming a favorite and will be making some trips, as well. 5. The cane is straight as an arrow. No bends, crooks, etc. 6. Mine came with a manufacturer's rubber tip attached. To make sure the cane was fully embedded in the tip, a few downward whacks of the tip driven into the floor did the trick. 7. The price...I got mine for $15. Can't beat a deal like that. Would I buy this again? Yes. I'll most likely be buying both of the other finishes of this model soon because they're a great deal and...I like canes. ... show more

  • More versatile than my adjustable metal cane
My landlord left an old wooden cane from one of his dead relatives that had the finish worn off and I started using it. I kind of like that the finish on this can is a little rough (a couple of bubbles on the final coat), if it was too pretty I wouldn't be motivated to go on walks outdoors and rough it up a bit. Oh, and I used some mineral spirits to remove the goo from the stickers, and no finish nor paint rubbed off. I like that the crook/handle of the cane is smaller than my metal cane's large flat foam-covered handle. The crook shape is also easier to stay on your arm and it has a narrower profile. Both canes weighed in at exactly one pound so it is just as light as the metal one. I did have to saw off about a half of an inch but that wasn't hard, measure twice and make sure to put some masking tape on the opposite side you start the cut so you don't split the wood at the end of the sawing job. The wood actually has a grain to it so it is not some kind of composite. Considering that some wood canes cost over $300 this is a no-brainer. ... show more

  • My cane, my friend
About three years ago my VA Primary Health Provider (doctor) told me I needed to start using a cane. I thought she was silly. I could walk with no help. Turns out that walking wasn't the problem. It is my balance. I found out the hard way. After the second bad fall I looked into getting a cane. As I am cheap I turned to the VA for a cane. They said they would issue me a cane but I first had to go to the regional VA hospital (two hour drive) to attend classes on the use of a cane. I figured this was stupid. There are two things to know: which end to hold (duh) and then point it at the ground (again - duh). I declared the VA to be staffed by idiots (not the last time) and turned to Amazon.com. I found this cane rather quickly. I was apprehensive about the length but figured if it was too short I would have to get used to it and if it was too long I could always call on my friend the saw. He has happily helped me in the past. I really don't know how some reviewers have determined that it is knot free. You can sand anything and cover it with a thick coat of paint and it would be impossible to tell what is under the paint. However, I pulled off the rubber crutch tip (gasp) and found that it is some type of composite material. That is fine with me as composits are usually stronger. If I had wanted some pretty oak or walnut I would have spent more money. As for the length, it is perfect. It is almost as if someone measured me for a cane. (Maybe my memory is getting bad with age but I don't remember this happening.) I am six feet one inches tall if that helps anyone in determining if it is the right length for them. It is, also, the perfect length for closing my car door or reaching that top shelf at the grocery store if that helps. It has become my constant companion. I have forgotten it twice and felt as if an appendage was missing until I realized that I had left it behind. I have come to depend on it and it has saved me several times from falling (oh yeah, that's why I have it - duh for the third time), Yeah, yeah, it makes me look old and feeble but I have finally reached the age where I just don't care. One reviewer noted that it would make a good self defense weapon but I hope to never use it as such. That's why I carry a Glock. -- Update -- I have had this cane for almost a year and the rubber tip had a large piece cut off somehow. Amazon.com has a wide assortment of tips but I don't know what size to order. Can anyone help with this info? Otherwise going strong. ... show more

  • It's a bulky anti-fashion statement. Ok if you have no pride.
I was disappointed. It's twice as heavy as my old cane and it's ugly. I removed four ugly stickers on the cane that were useless defacements. They did not come off easily. Two of the stickers were about lot numbers and manufacturing information and the one was for the 300lb weight capacity and one was about how much the company cares for me. Ugh! I may need a cane but I still care about my looks. Why paste ugly white stickers on you bulky black cane? ... show more

  • For those who prefer a wooden cane.
Bought this cane for my brother. He preferred a wooden one and seems to be happy with it. Had it cut down a few inches, for his comfort, and has no compliants.
