  • Beautiful when it works, previous one died a miraculous death
Style: Old Model(PRO-200)
So this is the second Pixma PRO 200 I've owned. Had to buy a new one on Black Friday 2024 because the previous died a miraculous death. It's up there with Hamsters. Somewhat shaken and in fear of printer deaths now. THE PRINTER ITSELF: First things first, it's a gorgeous printer. It prints gorgeous prints, it's so hefty and the ink lays beautifully. I use my printer to make stickers. I can go months without printing, the ink will be just fine, but it's probably not recommended to do this. I refuse to return to a normal printer due to the color range and quality. Yes, the printer has a full set of ink to get you started. That's like a $100-$120 value right there. Would highly suggest getting a second stock of ink if you intend to print a lot of full colored images, the ink is hard to come by for some reason. $13-$15 a pop's kinda pricy, but I feel like the quality is worth it. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend buying such an extra printer. This thing's built strictly for print, no scan as well. SETUP: Setup is easy enough, if you get stuck on connecting it to the WI-FI where your PC says it can't find your printer, just hit the home button on your printer, go down to LAN > WIFI > SETTINGS > WI-FI SETUP > MANUAL CONNECT > Find your WiFi name > there might be multiple choices of the same named router, just pick top and enter your password, if it's wrong, swap to the second option available and enter your password. Your PC will pick up your printer once you connect it to the WIFi this way, continue the setup on your PC. Or skip all the hubbub and just go wired. PREVIOUS PRINTER DEATH: Now here's how the previous one died. My previous printer was 3 years old, and out of warranty, and while I've had my fair share of normal errors, this one was the ERRORS OF ALL ERRORS. The godforsaken "paper jam". The impossible to find, it's not real, I'm having a schizo moment, paper jam. Error 1300 that killed my printer once and for all. One busy morning, my Pixma threw up error 1300. "Paper Jam." The reality was there was no jam. There was no paper for it to choke on, and there was absolutely no Canon rep to speak to without their hand out, no store nearby to bring it to, and no help online. Apparently this printer is just elusive for repair, and general information online. RIP $600. I did the good ol unplug, replug. Worked! For a while. Like a single print. Error again. Okay... I clean it. I do everything by the manual to clean, to dust, to ensure everything is in order, and even leave it unplugged for its specified 5-10 mins. Nope, "jammed." Leave it unplugged overnight, works for 6 prints, then dies again. COOL! It starts throwing up this error so much no matter what I did, that once I unplugged and replugged it for the umpteenth time, it didn't even want to start up. The screen flicked on, still black, and never came back to me again. Tried swapping its power cable, thinking it got fried somehow. Nope! Same black screen deal. Sometimes while plugging it back in it'd boot up just the Canon logo and then go back to never loading anything. We love that... SOOO much. Me thinks it was borked the moment it threw up that first error because seriously there was nothing for it to jam on. I've never had a paper RIP in the printer, it's all vinyl. Vinyl that never peeled incorrectly in the printer. 3 years. 3 years of on n off printing, not enough to get my value out of it, kind of upset about that. CANON SUPPORT: Canon's support team is absolute dogwater. The official site will direct you to the forums where you must make another account... to talk to other USERS... otherwise, you can talk to a representative at a fee if you're out of warranty. "Up to $20." Cool cool. I wasn't about to do that, because it was very clear that my printer was beyond a $20 phone call. Beyond a simple repair shop, this thing was dead dead. FINAL THOUGHTS: All n all I DO love my printer, after all I returned to get a second one clearly, but just be wary about whether there's a Canon store near you, or a print shop that is qualified to take Canon printers to fix them. Be aware some errors apparently can be devistating, make sure to print something every once in a while, and maybe buy a dust cover. Protect your investment y'all. Also maybe buy the official Canon carepak warranty on their site. I don't want to but seeing how my previous one died, I might just have to. ... show more

  • Great Quality Printer (and YES..it DOES come with ink.)
Style: Old Model(PRO-200)
First off, the previous reviewers stating it does not come with ink are flat out incorrect. Maybe if they didn't rip the package open like a 8 year old on Christmas they would realize the 8 ink cartridges are on top between 2 pieces of cardboard.(1st thing I noticed when I open the box up, as well as the 8.5x11 sample pack of Luster paper) SMH. With that out of the way, the printer was also very easy to set up...took me 30 minutes (give or take..and that was taking my time) from unboxing, setup, calibration & printing out pics ..apparently the other negative reviewer has not touched a printer in 20-30 years or so....but it does have paper instructions (in multiple languages) of step by step what to do & if you can't read, there are animation steps on the display of the printer itself. (if you can't see...then you probably shouldn't be buying a printer anyway.) Third...the Printer is a beast...as in it is massive 25 inches wide so make sure you have adequate space to set it up. (although smaller than previous models) but this does print 13x19 size paper so it will be bigger than your standard cheap walmart models. It does take a little time for the printer to "warm up" or shake the ink up so if you have not used it in a while so this may happen...it's perfectly normal. It is slightly noisy when doing so but nothing like a heavy metal concert level noise. I would have preferred a larger screen AND to have it a touch screen, but that is a nit picky personal preference. (I did much research before investing in this so I already knew about the screen & was ok with it vs my printing needs that took a higher priority) Printer quality is EXCELLENT. I am a Graphic Artist/Illustrator that does a wide range of art from oil portraits & landscapes to comic book illustrations...and the color is vibrant, & seamless...meaning even under a magnifying glass, I detected no inkjet "dots" from the colors. Better than a Staples or Office Max print out....which after running into problems printing my OWN artwork out, I decided to invest in a large format printer. The Inks seem to be only available (at this time) from Canon directly & I have found 2 other online places that offer them as well. (sadly, as on now not on Amazon) and even a few colors are on backorder. Pretty sure the Pandemic is making that a little harder to mass produce them. This Printer & cartridges (CLI-65) were released in late 2020 so they are relatively new on the market. Each of the 8 inks cost about $13.99 a piece or $105 for all in 1 bundle. It is usually recommended that you buy the inks as you need them as certain colors will be used up quicker than others. It also comes with a installation CD but you can also download it from the Canon website (also provided in the paperwork) The Canon printing Software, I think is ok, have not used it much (will learn more about it later) but offers many settings..however I prefer at the moment and am able to print using Photoshop's UI...which is quicker for me. I have noticed to get the best results, you must tell Photoshop print menu (& the Canon Software) which paper yuo are printing on. There is also a setting on the printer itself to auto detect or bypass it. I take the extra step and set the paper style myself as it may or may not recognize other brand papers. So far I have used Canon Luster, Glossy II, Staples Matte, all of which have great results. (and intend to get more styles and brands to test out on the future...especial the metallic papers) The Printer is also wireless capable (tried & works) Airplay capable for Apple products (haven't tried yet) Not sure about android but probably could use the wi fi for that as well. It has an ethernet port & a USB B port for direct connect from computer/laptop to printer. Sadly, no standard USB for flash drives, or SD card slots. (update: Works just fine wirelessly from my Ipad and My Macbook Air) That is all I can think of at the moment. ... show more

  • My life saver!
Style: Old Model(PRO-200)
The media could not be loaded. I was so so nervous about getting a new printer when mine died. I own a stationery company so printing envelopes and high quality images are extremely important. This printer is perfect!! It is very easy to use and set up right out of the box. The image quality it produces is unmatched. No streaking or lines through the color. Print speed is where I would expect, not too fast not too slow. So far no connectivity issues and the value for the money is on par. Especially because I can print full bleed! It is quite larger than my last one but because the printable area is so large it is honestly fitting. ... show more
