Description

The Canon EOS 5D Mark III is the latest in Canon's line of full-frame DSLR cameras. Its impressive array of capabilities and advanced controls allow the photographer ever more influence over the final image. With this comes more menus, buttons, and dials that the photographer must learn how to use to take full advantage of the camera. This book explores the features and capabilities of the 5D Mark III in a way that far surpasses the user's manual. It guides readers through the camera features with step-by-step setting adjustments; color illustrations; and detailed how, when, and why explanations for each option. Every button, dial, switch, and menu configuration setting is explored in a user-friendly manner, with suggestions for setup. The informative text is illustrated with screenshots and example images throughout, making it easy to follow along. Author James Johnson covers everything from the basic features of the camera to the numerous advanced photographic options as he discusses topics such as focus and exposure, lenses, lighting, custom settings, and more. With this book as your guide, you'll learn how to get the most out of this powerful camera. Read more

  • Those giving the book 3 or fewer stars have not, in my opinion, fully appreciated James clear writing and personal opinions.
Having just purchased the 5D Mark III, I was intimidated with the Instruction Manual. Before purchasing Johnson's book I read all the reviews for 1, 2, and 3 star reviews. I wanted to know why purchasers were so unhappy with the book. The biggest complaint was some thought his book was just a glorified manual and not worth the cost. Well I disagree! In the camera manual on pages 18 & 19 There are small drawings with all the buttons and dials labeled and in parentheses the page number describing that controls function. In Johnson's book there is a photo of the camera from every angle with everything labeled. I copied those pages and laminated them. For example, in the manual it labels the Main Dial (page 45). On page 45 are approximately 3 short paragraphs of very succinct information. In Johnson's book he devotes an entire page to describing, in easy to read logic, what it is, how it works, and how it relates to the operation of the camera. It's a good manual, and a terrific book. Well worth the price. ... show more

  • Not as detailed as I had hoped for in an instructional book.
The book covers the amazing 5D3 however, I was looking for something that was more instructional. Maybe I haven't reached that chapter yet, I tend to jump around looking for specific things and I've been disappointed so far. Chalk it up to my impatience. It seems I have the students version when I was looking for the teachers manual. Just my opinion. ... show more

  • Lengthened instruction manual only
This is a lengthened instruction manual only. Don't buy it if you want tips and trick about how to use the camera. I wanted a book that elaborated more clearly than the instruction manual and that's what I got. No more, no less. It does a fine job of doing just that.

  • Put this book in the box with every camera
I find the instruction manuals Canon includes with their cameras a challenge to read. James Johnson's guide to the Canon EOS 5D Mark III is a dream come true for me. His writing is clear and easy to read. I've had my Mark III since it became available last year and have had questions that I didn't think would ever be resolved. Not anymore. ... show more

  • Not What I Expected
This book is really just a more readable version of the manual. I was hoping for someone who had reviewed and test drove all the features and then relayed the best settings, etc... to us. I was looking for more a professional opinion than just descriptions. That said, it is more thorough and than the Canon manual....I just didn't need a $30 manual. ... show more
