    • My vet says dogs need grain in their diet

Thought this product worked well, my dogs liked the taste and my dog with a sensitive stomach tolerated it. Then my other dog developed a heart murmur and I was told by the vet that dogs need grain in their diet and lack of grain could be contributing to her heart problems. This food is grain free.

As you may know, Frenchies have allergies to anything, their stomachs are more delicate than newborns. So, we have tried three brands without any healthy success (soft stools, vomiting, nonstop scratching, pellets too big or hard to Frenchies or plain didn't eat it...). This food has been perfect, she even looks trim and fit, as the other food just made her look more like boxy-looking (I know, Frenchies' bodies are a mix-and-match-looks). We started with the rice and salmon, she liked it, but they ran out of it and tried the salmon sweet potatoes, and that one hit the spot. Now she can devour her plate (Not even slowfeeder seems to slow her down). We pair this with Native Pet Omega 3 Fish Oil, to improve her digestion, hair, and nutrients (Remember, Frenchies are prompt for anything). So far, we have seen an improvement in her coat and energy, and she seems to be fuller with this food. The downside... when she passes gas... oh my.... too much salmon!!! at least, is not as frequent as with Purina One, so, I think this is a win. ... show more

My dog transitioned to this food when I felt his older food was no longer a good plan. Merrick was purchased by purina and the small ingredient type plan changed to a "new formula". My pup likes this food, no issues there, but over time he's keeps on having digestive issues and when my neighbors, who coincidentally feed their two small dogs the same, had kidney stone issues, I've decided to move on. I want to state clearly that I don't know if it is the food, but when the only thing a dog consumes is a single brand of food and when another dog has some issues with digestive track, it makes you wonder. Honestly I don't think we have all that great options on pet food so you simply have to go with what your own pets are comfortable with. I initially thought this food was way over priced, but it came down to a reasonable price, but again, my dog didn't seem to do too well with it and I'm moving on. ... show more
