  • Stout
Size: 8" Diameter
The caps are very well made. I use them with pvc pipe as part of my fishing rod holders on a kayak trailer. I’m really happy about them being able to lock using a padlock. Excellent product.

  • You're gonna need a bigger drill bit
Size: 6" Diameter
The only issue I had was the U bolt was not made to fit over a 6-5/8 schedule 40 PVC pipe. The radius is too small. So instead of drilling nice 3/8 holes I had to open them up to 11/16 to get them to go through.

  • Great product, very useful!
Size: 6" Diameter
I ordered this kit for my work van. I have a ladder rack and needed a 10 foot storage tube. I got a 10 foot PVC foam pipe from a distributor, Home Depot does not carry and PVC over 4 inches. Drilling the holes for the “U” clamp was tricky to get it perfectly straight. Once installed it’s great! I store all thread, unistrut, and long push poles. I have a padlock on it and everything is protected from the elements and theft. Read the instructions carefully. ... show more

  • Great cast parts and u-bolts
Size: 6" Diameter
The cast parts are pretty impressive. I don't know of another kit that has such a great, real "saddle" for the bottom of the pipe. The cap and door end are well-cast, and fit schedule 40 PVC quite well. I wish the door locked more securely, but I modified it a bit to to make me rest easier when driving with a load of steel bar up there. For the record, this whole kit cost as much as just two PVC caps cost from my local irrigation outlet. This same kit from other online sources can be almost 2x as much as it is being sold here! I can make my own caps. I can make my own U-bolts, but I really liked those cast saddles, and the cost is so reasonable... so I bought the kit. I have some info and corrections (to statements I've seen in the comments) to share. First, this fits well on Schedule 40 PVC. If you want a lighter system, the kit will work on the drain/waste PVC that is about schedule 20. But you must use a bell end on both ends to get the diameter correct. OR you can cut some bands of a few inches each, cut those bands so they expand like a spring clip, slip them onto each end and glue them to make the correct diameter for the cast ends to fit. To strengthen the areas where the U-bolts go, and to make the pipe fit better in the saddles, you can (and I did!) add similar bands (cuffs?) to those areas where the U-bolts hold it. A band saw is really handy at this point! The U-bolts that came with mine are NOT 3/8-16 like everybody says (including the distributor!). They are certainly close, but are actually M10-1.5. This is so close that the M10 nuts from this kit will thread onto slightly narrower 3/8-16 bolts, but a 3/8-16 nut will not work on the U-bolts that came in my kit. I had to create a custom mount for mine, and purchased the 3/8 nuts I thought I needed, but NOPE. Will not fit the U-bolts. The thread pitch is just barely close enough, but the diameter of the M10 bolt is 0.6mm larger than a 3/8 bolt. So don't make the mistake I did! Realize that these are metric and don't waste money on nice stainless 3/8 hardware. ... show more

  • Worked for rooftop Fly rod carrier project
Size: 6" Diameter
I designed a fly rod rooftop carrier because the commercially available ones are above my budget. I bought 2 sets of these caps and powder coated them red and installed on my tubes. Some have complained about the gasket inside not sealing. Mine were good enough. I am making my own gaskets and doubling up the gasket thickness to seal a little more tightly. I like that these lock. They are very easy to actuate and open/close with one hand. I oriented them such that the hatch swings open horizontally like a house door. Works great. FYI: the u-bolt thread size is M10x1.50. Also: they come as raw aluminum. The Amazon photos appear to show grey powder coating but they are not. I bought my own stop nuts to prevent the included nuts from rattling loose on rough mountain jeep trails in Colorado. The included nuts already we’re working loose after 1 week of highway driving to work, testing things out before we hit the trails tomorrow. I am very happy with these. I have made rod tubes using sewer clean out caps, but these aluminum caps add a professional polish and allow you lock them securely. I don’t make stuff for posing at the mall… I use all my stuff on the trials. ... show more

  • Great
Size: 4" Diameter
Unlike other reviews, it seems like they got the packaging figured out. Came perfectly protected. Exactly as described. The whole purpose of this is to make alternate use of a pvc pipe. It takes a modicum of skill and imagination to get what you are trying to do. That’s why it’s $100 bucks with the pipe not a $400 product with multiple mounting options and everything included. For me, it’s exactly what I expected, wanted, and can use. ... show more

  • Great Fly Rod Carrier
Size: 6" Diameter
Installed on underside of my ladder rack so I can still use brushless car wash. Opted for green sewer rated PVC as it was 60% of the cost of white PVC at L*wes. Use foam pipe insulation as sleeves for the rods to avoid any damage to rods. Has great paddle lock option that is far more secure than the $400-500 rod holders with the key locks. ... show more

  • 8" schedule 40 is way too expensive. Get 6"
Size: 8" Diameter
So I got a little overzealous in an effort to optimize an old trailer. I figured I'd go big or go home and toss these along the sides for drip caps and long levels and whatnot but I'm not a plumber so what I didn't anticipate was 8" schedule 40 pipe costing 3x as much as 6" and not readily available anywhere. I could run to my local home goods store and get two 10' pieces of 6" schedule 40 for around $40ea. 10' pieces of 8" are special ordered for $120-140. I paid $400 for the trailer so when I finally bite the bullet on the 8" I'll have ~$400 in conduit carriers which is not a lot of cubic real estate for the money. Another thorn is the extra 8" U bolts costing $20ea and not including the saddles. So the whole unit is $60 with nuts, bolts, saddles, and lockable caps, but somehow the U bolt alone is 1/3 of that cost sold separately? That's price gauging. For the cost of three U bolts you can but an entire unit that comes with two U bolts. If I was to go back and do it again, I would order four 6" conduit kits instead of two 8" and I would have more storage for around 60% of the price. I would also choose another dealer that included four mounting U bolts rather than two. I think the extra U bolts are more important than the saddles for my side mount application. Overall the construction of these is solid and it's my own fault for not looking into it deeper. ... show more
