This adorable diary/journal came with a super cute pen & instructions on how to set the lock. It's 'puffy.. or squishy' on the outside & feels neat/soft. I gave 4 stars because the design/writing is fuzzy and not clear on the top of the book. This is a pretty diary for journaling or taking notes. It's wonderful that it has a combination lock instead of a key that can get lost. There are instructions on how to set the combination to a personal number and also instruction for if the combination is forgotten. The pen is also pretty and makes litte ones feel grown up. Each page has a spot to write the date, day of the week, and note the weather. These little things make girls feel more grown up and sophisticated. The diary is the right size for a 9 year old girl. It has a lock that is pretty easy to open but don't forget the code. The nice thing is that there is no key to lose. The diary is squishy so you could chuck it at someone's head and they probably wouldn't die. Joking aside, it's a fairly cheap diary but will be fine for the average girl who will write in it a few times and probably never pick it up again. If you want something more durable, I'd recommend looking elsewhere, but if the price is right, then this is a fun gift. ... show more
