I love ALCAR, I take it every day. I used to take Jarrow, but as I take a lot of supplements, one starts wondering about the fillers in them ... and, who wants to swallow all those pills? This powder does the same job as the Jarrow supplement did, it's less expensive, and it dissolves perfectly in my tea. It's sour, so if you add it to your tea, it will add a bit of a sour punch, like lemon juice (one thing I had to learn is to go easy on the lemon juice in my tea once I use this!). My perfect cup of tea currently is either black tea with a dash of pomegranate juice and ALCAR, or green tea with ALCAR (I add Stevia as well as a sweetener, which apparently this company also carries, for a great price!) I occasionally add a dash of Taurine powder to my tea as well (this is also a very good supplement, available from Bulk Supplements; please look it up online!) and a dash of DMAE powder (also from Bulk Supplements). Taurine is overall great for you, and if you mix it with ALCAR in your drink, it will give you "focus and strength" feeling. I can technically only go by "feelings," but I can't study or perform well at my job without ALCAR! DMAE will give you more of a "I can do it now, fast!" type boost, the "I'm ready!" type response. ALCAR will be more of a better focus. Combine both, you can study, pass a test, work out, lose weight ... you name it. I used to drink a lot of coffee, which by itself isn't a bad thing (there are many studies on coffee's anti-cancer benefits), however a lot of coffee may make you crash ... unless you supplement with ALCAR or DMAE, then that won't happen. Just please be careful with amounts, these are powerful supplements! I tried to add ALCAR to coffee, but as it's acidic, and in my opinion it doesn't go well with it at all. The same goes for DMAE. I added both ALCAR and DMAE to coffee one time, and it didn't quite agree with milk... it turned it into cheese. I suppose if you drink your coffee black and don't mind acidity, or use small amounts of powder, that wouldn't matter. Then of course there are other options, such as, for instance, filing an empty salt shaker (or some other container from a spice) with ALCAR and adding a dash to your salad dressing. It goes well with salad dressings, just as lemon juice would. This method doesn't allow you to measure exactly the amount consumed, but I personally never measure my supplements with a scale, I know quite well what size of a "pinch" I need. Should you do a lot of research before you take anything (like I do), you may have come upon reports of carnitine inhibiting thyroid function. Please note, the reports are for carnitine, not ALCAR, and relatively high doses of carnitine were used as well. If you want to take care of your thyroid (which as I've just read on Dr. Mercola site has a lot to do with one's mental health), you may want to think of iodine supplementation. If you look it up, current US guidelines for iodine consumption are ridiculously low, and nations such as Japanese may consume up to 8,000% of our "recommended daily allowance" of iodine every day. Thus, supplements such as Swanson Ultra iodine supplement, with about 8,000% of the RDA value in one pill, have entered the market, and you may want to consider some sort of iodine supplementation regardless of what other supplements you happen to take.     • ALCAR is amazing for executive function

I find this ALCAR powder to be cheaper and far more effective than the capsules I was taking. Highly recommend taking with fatty meals for mental acuity (brain food), I'm taking 4-6g with each meal and it's making an amazing difference. The taste (tastes chalky, musty and acidic) is a drawback of the powder form but it's more bearable in a protein shake (or orange juice in a pinch). Background: ALCAR turns into Carnitine in the body, the body already makes this stuff as a critical part of fat metabolism but having more is really helpful for feeding the brain (as it's one of the few foods that can cross the blood-brain barrier), it's also used in the endocrine system to make growth hormones (more specifically IGF-1) and in building muscle and collagen. It has many uses which is why it's recommended for so many things. It's naturally found in red meat (but this supplement is not derived from meat). As someone with executive function disorders like adhd, my executive function area of the brain is literally starving all the time. So I started taking an increasing dose of ALCAR capsules and now switched to this powder which I seem to absorb better. Taking 4-6g (4000-6000mg) of this with my breakfast (which has to contain some fat for this to work) has made an amazing difference. It gives me a kick of alertness, focus, motivation and ability to ignore distractions for several hours. No more hyperfocus on the wrong thing, no more issues with socially noisy environments (open-plan offices and meetings are hell for distractions). Seems to last about 4-6 hours before it stars fading - so if I intend to work late I take it again with lunch. Somehow it seems to help with my autism issues in meetings as well (I can pay attention to everything going on in the room). Honestly ALCAR has saved my software engineering career and put me on a path to promotion, I'm no longer just "occasionally" brilliant. Highly recommend for people with adhd and autism. ... show more
