Building Smart Home Automation Solutions with Home Assistant by Marco Carvalho provides a comprehensive introduction to the world of home automation. Using the Raspberry Pi platform and the Home Assistant software, Carvalho starts off with general descriptions of the components, including sensors, actuators, YAML, and the pieces of the communication chain (MQTT and wireless / Ethernet). He then walks the reader through the theory and implementation of several actual automation setups. 

The book covers customization and expansion of the basic PI/Home Assistant installation and offers a few blueprints for exercises the reader may want to use as jumping-off points for her/his own projects. Carvalho concludes with a wrap-up that provides a look at possible trends and a list of online resources for home automation implementers.
