  • Good dust collector for a single line.
Style: DC-30A
I have a large JET dust collector and a Rikon filter for workshop. I am running a 13" JET planer inf the garage, though, to plane some wook from a maple tree I took down and milled up. Got this guy to extract chips from that planer. At unboxing, the tool seems adequate, but typical corners appear cut. Not that it will afect function, per se, but bolts, wheels, etc fell a bit on the cheap side. Fit and finish is, I'd say ... adequate. Not cheap, but not high level like my other "top" brands. Some elements were good, just not every detail. The welds on the wall mount, for instance looked nasty. However, they do look solid ... so it's just looks. How does it function? ... well ... Using the supplied hose attached to my 13" JET planer, it works very well. I'm completely satisfied with the function. I did set it on the ground so can't speak to how it is on the wall, but it does not seem to have much vibration. It starts very smoothly and develops plenty of air movement to extract all the chips cleanly from the planer. I've run it close to 40 minutes straight - planer got hot and so I gave it a break, but left the dust collector going to pull some air through - dust collector was barely warm. IMHO, the bag does a decent job of filtering any dust - I don't really smell the maple I was working on - previously using a shop vac with hepa filter, to attempt to collect the chips, I smelled it. It's really a "chip extractor" not a filter, so don't expect it to be what it's not. Again, I run a filter alongside my extractor in the "real" shop. The impeller appears to be metal - BIG PLUS. The intake has a 'cross; but not mesh or a screen like I saw stated in reviews of a WEN. I did have one instance where, when the bag was getting closer to full, i noticed I wasn't getting all the chips from the planer. I shut down and took off the hose from the collector - there was a clog of chips. Mind you, i'm collecting chips - shavings really - from a planer, so this WILL clog more than sawdust from, say a table or miter saw. To issues I saw in reviews and made me hesitate on this tool (I actually have been eyeing it for about 3-4 months...) 1 - Noise: I saw some reviews that said it was loud. I do not feel it's loud. It's far quieter than my table saw, miter saw, router/ router table, jointer, floor-standing belt sander ... my lathe is probably my only large tool that is quieter than this. Its far quieter than my JET dust collecter (but the JET that's expected!). It's FAR, FAR quieter than the planer I have it attached to and it's quieter than the larger shop vacuum I was using before. It's more a soft, whooshing roar as opposed to a shop vac screaming. It really isn't that bad and I expected much louder actually. 2 Remote - yeah, it is kinda cheap feeling. I did wonder if I was going to break it or at least gouge up the plastic as I was dissembling it to put in a battery. And yeah, it does sort of look and feel a bit cheap. BUT, it does work well, and I think it's a really cool feature to have on a dust collector this size. My large JET collector is old enough it wasn't a common option then, so I added on a remote control - it's so nice to just tap a button to start/stop, and not have to walk back and forth to multiple tools when working. 3 power/ air movement - Plenty to extract chips/shavings from a 13" planer making light passes (1/32) on 4-8" of maple. I does feel like it moves a lot of air. I think it would be adequate for any other tool I have - Jointer, tablesaw, bandsaw, lathe, etc. However, I don't think I'd use this to operate a whole network of ducts with blast gates etc. For that, you really need a larger tool. This isn't that, so DON'T judge it down for that! For a portable or second collector, I think you'd be hard pressed to get better for the money. Sure you can go cheaper, but it won't be as good; you could pay more, but I'm not sure it will extract dust that much better. So I do recommend this tool. Over all i'm very happy with this tool. It costs a bit more than, for instance, the WEN I was looking at. However, the metal impeller, lack of the grate at the inlet (to protect the impeller I believe, which is plastic in other models), the relatively quite operation, and the remote, this tool is a winner for value. One thing to note is that I felt more static electricity on the hose of this extractor than my large JET. Static is normal for collectors - look up how to ground your ducts as static can actually cause a spark that ignites dust - BOOOM! Given the hose "feels" pretty charged in use, I would recommend doing that on this device. I am not extracting dust right now, just planer chips, or I would have shut the thing down and grounded my hose run right away. So a solid 4 stars. Not quite a "perfect" tool to get 5 stars, but I highly recommend this tool for use that's in scope for this size tool. ... show more

  • Pound For Pound The Best Wall Mount/Mobile Dust Collector in its class and beyond!
Style: DC-30A
Let's talk about quality. When your like me, you want every dollar you spend on tools to not only last, but make you money. I mean, that's the idea right? Right off the bat, my first BuckTool, this Dust Collector, was saving me time, which is money, with a no hassle, super quick assembly. In less than 10 minutes I had everything attached, the hose, the Dust Bag and the 4 wheels that attached to the bottom of the frame, allowing it to smoothly cruise all over my shop. I even took it out onto the rocky driveway to see how it rolled and the wheels handled it no problem. Great Mobility across all surfaces. After having it hooked up quickly, I attached the 4" hose with the double banded metal screw clamp that are provided onto my 12" Planer. I ran pine, Oak and Maple and it sucked the dust and large chips with no issue what so ever. It's so strong that after attaching a 4" splitter and 2 hoses, I was able to run a 6" random orbital sander AND my planer at the same time from 2 different hoses, with satisfactory suction on both tools. Premium Dust Collection at the 6" sander point of contact while simultaneously pulling all the heavy dust chips from the 12" planer, up into the BuckTool bag. Absolutely amazing. With the addition of the hoses, I decided to mount the Dust Collector to a wall and it fits securely and safely with the provided bracket and lag bolt hardware kit. A real cool feature is to not have to do anything, but put the unit on and off the bracket, there NO disassembly of the wheels and NO reconfiguration of the base, it simply just goes on and off the provided bracket with the tiniest loosening/fastening of 2 bolts. While I mainly use it attached to the wall and the series of hoses, it still is convenient to be able to dismount it to either use outside if necessary, another jobsite or for the routine maintenace and cleaning. Very convenient and very awesome and with the use of the remote, it doesn't matter how far away the hose has brought you from the Dust Collector, you can turn it on and off at the tool with no hassle or walking over to the unit. After going on about how powerful it is, your probably wondering what beastly sounds it makes, well guess what? It doesn't. At all. I can't stress enough how quiet the machine is. Iam not sure i know of a Wall Mount Dust Collector that offers this combination of Crazy High Power and Ultar Low Decibels. There's been more than once that I've turned off my tool and walked away, almost forgetting to turn of the dust collector, its THAT quiet. The 2 Micron Dust Bag keeps all that pesky ambient dust out of the air really well and the provided hose is of such a high quality that I see it lasting for a long time even after being dragged around a shop, back and forth between tools for years. This is my first Bucktools purchase that I made after hearing the buzz about how amazing their products are to use, the results they produce and how robust and long lasting they are. The hype is real. Iam so thoroughly pleased with this purchase and the the company Bucktool as a whole, moving forward, my bench machines are gonna be Bucktools. Just delivered is a BuckTools Bench Grinder with 8" wheels for sharpening my shop tools and grinding metal pieces and I can't wait to put this together and let you all know how great that one is as well. Thanks for listening to me rant and rave about this awesome product, my verdict is super clear and without a doubt is 100% satisfaction and beyond with this tool. Definitely buy it! Michael V.
