If it was made of a different material it could be softer but it is still very soft and thick enough to not get too messy with a squirming baby. It’s a thin blanket. We love the animals depicted on this blanket. It’s not a swaddle blanket but I guess you can use it as such if needed.needs to be ironed, at the very least. Shrinks a little if washed before use.

I purchased 2 blankets from amazon in about the same price range. The issue with most of these blankets: poor quality, polyester material, and some of them are so cheaply made that they are are almost see through so when you take a picture you can see whatever you have in different color under the blanket.
