Size: 52mm to 82mm
During the past thirty years I have used step up rings for nearly every camera rig imaginable - including 16 and 35mm film. Until now, rings have a history of bad machining and causing untold moments of panic. THIS ring is EXCELLENT ! It is well-made, has mass (not flimsy), comes nicely packaged (though I will put mine in a hard/styrene filter case), and is a well-thought out piece of gear. I will be looking for other products from this company including other step rings. If you get one of these and don't like it, I'd like to hear about it. For now I am thinking that this is start-up company committed to rising to the top and plans on getting there by making the best gear possible. — disclaimer: No one gave me free gear to shill for this company/product. I'm writing because what I paid for exceeded my expectations: something that rarely happens. ... show more

  • STUCK TO ND FILTER
Size: 55mm to 67mm
This product is extremely disappointing. It got stuck to my ND filter when I was filming a wedding! I have two of these rings and they BOTH got stuck on two different sized ND filters. Luckily I could film the wedding with just those two lenses. I was extremely stressed and will NEVER purchase these step up rings again. The only way to remove them is by dousing them in WD-40 and then taking apart the ND filter (because the oil smears the glass), cleaning it, and then reassembling it. Extremely disappointed and frustrated. ... show more

  • Nice Ring!
Hesitated ordering due to the price being so much higher than aluminum step-up-rings, and not sure it could be that much better. This is a very nice ring. The ring is about three times heavier than the aluminum versions, so still light, and very well made. The biggest plus, and the reason I was even considering this ring, is it doesn't stick like the aluminum rings I have used. In spite of my best efforts, I have had aluminum rings stick to the point I didn't think I would ever get the filter off. A filter wrench didn't even help. Just time and determination. It seemed to just be the risk you took when using them, regardless of brand or price. Looks like this problem has been solved with the Breakthrough Photography ring. I have tried to get this ring stuck, intentionally tightening down a B+W CPL on it, and it comes loose every time, using fingers only, with about the same force used to put it on. No longer will I be running around with filters only partially screwed on. ... show more

  • Not 100% Smooth/Seamless But Gets Job Done
Size: 67mm to 72mm
3 MONTH FOLLOW UP: I had originally rated this a 3 stars, now lowered it to 1. As previously mentioned, I always had some difficulty getting the filters to screw into the adapter and I still do. The reason that I have lowered this to a one is because I had a filter FALL OFF of the adapter in a studio setting. I'm not running and gunning or wildly swinging my camera around, just carrying it attached to a sling strap around my shoulder. I had screwed my filter in until it was difficult to turn (only about one full rotation) but in the end it somehow came loose and fell off just from me walking around the studio. After 1 month using this step up adapter, I purchased a 2 pack of step up adapters for $8. My filters have no problem screwing all the way in to the cheap adapters and after 2 months of use have not fallen off yet. I purchased the 67mm to 72mm stepup. I'm in a Sony ecosystem so I purchased this to adapt the filters I have for my Sony 70-200/f4 to Tamron 28-75/f2.8. My three filters (VND, CPL, and UV) all screw in just fine to the 70-200, very smooth and snug. However when screwing the filters into the adapter, it is not very smooth. My UV filter fit on the best, it started smooth but after a couple turns, became a little tougher to turn. If you push past it, it became very inconsistent, kind of like a joint that isn't evenly greased, it would be easy to turn and then suddenly hard to turn and back to easy again etc.... I don't think my VND actually fits into the adapter as I can't get it to rotate more than a single full revolution before it gets stuck. As you can see in the picture, the VND(top) has a large gap between the base of the adapter but the UV filter(bottom) has a very small gap. The 67mm side that screwed onto the lens worked just fine, it is smooth all the way through and stays there. ... show more

  • It works well; packaging leaves much to be desired
Size: 62mm to 77mm
Offhand this step-up ring works well. The textured, knurled grip helps a lot when trying to unscrew a filter from it. Being brass it helps from the threads seizing and the blackening should help like flare/unwanted reflections. One thing to note is that unlike my other step-up rings sourced via a different manufacturer, this comes with no case whatsoever. The packaging was a plastic zip-sleeve which included the ring and a microfibre towel. The shipping envelope was a simple bubble-wrap plastic envelope with no stiffening whatsoever. This concerns me given the fact that the ring could have been bent in transit. Thankfully, mine wasn't and it threaded easy to my lens and my filters. Given the nature of the shipping packaging and the lack of a case, this should be concerning for any photographer--I personally would hate to have the filter threads damaged on an expensive filter or the filter threads of an even more expensive lens damage due to the ring being bent or damaged in transit on an otherwise great product. The seller/shipper should consider more robust packaging: either include a stiff plastic holder (the ones Breakthrough Photography uses for it's ND filters would work), or ship it in a sturdy box, not a flimsy envelope. Don't get me wrong though...the Step-up ring itself is very well-designed; just take caution when threading one the 1st time. If it threads on smoothly you're good to go. ... show more
