  • WOW
Size: 77mm to 82mm
Was a little annoyed that I had to buy new filters to replace all of my 77mm filters to fit with a new 82mm Nikon Z series lens. Oh well I'll just get some more (annoying) step up rings. Annoying because I have to carry them and annoying because, working events and things like that as a full timer, I'm bumping and banging gear around. And having a larger filter "hanging off" the edge of a smaller opening lens makes for another spot to catch or damage something. Well. These arent the aluminum, sheet metal feeling crummy step rings that became so common! And so commonly become stuck that I carry a filter wrench in my case. These are heavy and ever so slightly "flexible" as only brass can be when you screw it into your lens threads. Which means far less of a chance of getting it stuck. Nice finish and super nice knurled edge that might just make the need for a filter wrench obsolete. Time will tell on that one. Just bought a couple more sizes! Will update as I use them in the real world on jobs from cold to humid to dusty conditions. But I'm feeling good right out of the box and during the first few uses. ... show more

  • Surprisingly impressed
Size: 86mm to 95mm
I'd never heard of Breakthrough before. I only bought this because it was one of the only brass rings on Amazon that would ship quickly. After finding out they're based in California and handling the ring in person, I've purchased several more Breakthrough products, including one of their CP filters and some more adapter rings. All super solid, well-made, brass. ... show more

  • Super heavy duty, Worst thing to remove
Size: 62mm to 72mm
Super heavy duty, Worst thing to remove from its own family. I have the breakthrough polarizer filter and i thought i buy this heavy duty step down ring. Both are heavy duty. But i think the material they are using is like GLUE when screwed in to each other. I just got them apart after 1 month of trying. So i thought i hade tighten them too much. So today i just screwed them on each other again and right at the end i just turned the outer ring on the polarizer as if i was using it. I turned it not even half a turn and they are no glued together again. I had to use the filter ring tools to separate them. The RED ring is Way to shallow to get a grip on with just your fingers and almost too thin for the filter tools also. Well machined but not well though through. my 2 cents. If i could i would send it back. sad Face ... show more

  • Wow just Wow
Size: 67mm to 72mm
I purchased a inexpensive ring flash and some closeup lenses (the kind that screw in front of your lens) for a project. The ring flash uses adaptors that also screw into the lens, but they are made of plastic and not threaded on the inside. The adaptors for the flash weren't able to screw far enough into my filter or close up lens to not deform and fall out. As I was under a time crunch, I found a work around by not using the flash, however knowing I would want to use the flash at a later time i looked for an answer, then it hit me an adaptor ring might work. The cost of the Breakthrough item was double the price of others, but it was made from brass and in the USA so I bought it. It arrived today and boy howdy it was so well made and packaged it took me all of one second to know i had made the right move, well worth it. By the way, this adaptor cost almost as much as the ring flash but I will be using it way after that flash bites the dust. Great product, thank you ... show more

  • Brass makes the preferred filter rings
Size: 77mm to 82mm
Unlike less expensive step up rings Breakthrough Photography's rings are brass which means they don't bind on your lens or the filter you are using. They are a pleasure to use in the field when you need to change filters for changing light.

  • Step up Ring
Size: 77mm to 82mm
This was exactly was I was expecting. It is easy to use and has not had issues of locking up. They feel solid, which was a concern on seeing how some other are made. I am using them in combination of my L glass and polar pro filters. Overall, I would recommend them.

  • Works as intended, filters don't stick
Size: 77mm to 82mm
I use this primarily with a variable ND filter, and it works as intended. I have not had a problem with filters getting stuck or bound in this step up ring which can be a problem with some step up rings. This step up ring has held up well with repeated use, and is affordable. Recommended.
