I've been eating "good tasting" nutritional yeast for years. For some reason, it's become increasingly difficult to find in stores. Luckily, Amazon still has it (as does Whole Foods, if you know where to look). Nutritional yeast is made from a deactivated yeast and has a cheesy, pleasant flavor. It is rich in nutrients, particularly B-complex vitamins that vegetarians often lack in their diet. I first learned about it from The Farm's vegetarian cookbook. One of my favorite uses is to sprinkle it on buttered toast or buttered popcorn (try it!). It lends food a delicious savory cheesy flavor, a hint of saltiness, and is quite good for you. I am on a pretty strict diet because of health conditions and I’m not supposed to have dairy/cheese. This is a horrible life change because I absolutely love cheese, my doctor told me that if I used nutritional yeast, I could get the taste of cheese without the actual cheese. I was a total disbeliever, and I thought they were handing me a whole load of lies, but I did buy this because the price was right And I am really unhappy without my cheese lol I tried this in a bit Vengan taco salad, and even though I know there was absolutely no cheese. Great taste! I found I could put this in everything from oatmeal to salads to mashed potatoes. The flavored variety goes on my popcorn. The texture and smell are good also. I will buy again.
