Ive ordered the KIT2 8GA kit from boss a few years ago and since then it has improved quite a bit. The kit now includes what is labeled as OFC Speaker wire (16ga), and OFC RCA, two things that were both not labeled as OFC in years past. Unfortunately the power and ground cables are not labeled as OFC as well, however they appear to be true or very close to true 8GA unlike the last kit i ordered where the sheath was about the size you would expect but the conductor inside was undersized. Although the speaker wire and RCA's are labled as Oxygen Free Copper, they do not specify what grade, and the box does not mention OFC anywhere, so that is a mystery. My guess its that its a lower grade Partial-OFC that you would expect to see in a kit a bit higher up in the price range. Shame that power and ground are not also OFC but what can you ask for at such a cheap price. I was also pleased to see that the addition of 20 zip ties, as well as 3 grommets, 3 self tapping screws, 3 differently sized red ring terminals for the power cable, 4 small spade terminals with separate insulators for the speaker wire, 2 larger spade terminals with separate insulators for the ground cable, were all included as well, almost all of which were not included in the old KIT2. The fuse is even improved as it is now an ANL style GLASS fuse. while not ideal, it is a step up from the filament style glass fuse. The fuse assembly has two grommets on either end to seal the wire inside the fuse holder, and the two gold plated inserts that hold the fuse itself also have O-Rings for further protection. The holder is such that you do not have to disconnect the wires from the pieces that hold the fuse in order to remove it, simply unscrew the end-caps and pull the wire away. Another nice addition that was not in the old KIT2 is 6ft of wire loom to tidy up and protect the power cable inside the engine bay. In the end this is obviously not a high end installation kit, but for someone on a budget who doesnt care about having everything Oxygen-Free, its great for the price and includes everything you need for a standard 8GA installation! ... show more

    • A really good kit for your money

The wires and fuse holders are legit. I don't have spare 8 ga. wire on hand to compare it to, but I've done more than a couple amp installs. At no point during the install did I say "Hmmm... this isn't 8ga wire!" cause if it isn't it's ridiculously close to it. And they give you plenty of said wire. And a good quality fuse and holder. Also included are speaker wire, RCA signal wire, and remote power on wire. I thought the remote was very thin, but I can understand why you would cut a corner there. It's not like it is coming under load, or doing anything strenuous. And the kit comes with chafing gear(plastic tube / case that slip around a wire to keep it from wearing out) for the power (or ground I suppose). The only thing I could look for complaints on are that the connectors (o rings, and butt connectors) are a little lame. But you should be having plenty of these on hand anyways. Or solder and heat shrink. Honestly, for your money you won't find a better kit. I will definitely buy this again. Honestly though guys if you want the best kit with double shielded wire, and speaker wire that is double insulated and 12 ga. then get that. Cause you probably won't be happy if you settle for anything less. And this is not that. But if you want to wire your amp and speakers with a good kit and get the best bang for your buck, this is for you. And I've been down both roads, their is not a big difference.     • 16 gauge speaker wire with 8 gauge power?

The kit doesn't make much sense to be honest. 8 gauge power connect, but comes with only 16 AWG wire? I'd much rather have a shorter RCA cable than this speaker wire. If you are using 8AWG power wire you should be using something like 14/12. The split loom is absolutely useless and unusable. Its so thin that you will destroy its shape just trying to put wire in it. Don't know why they even bothered with it....I guess it makes the kit look like it has a bunch of stuff, but too bad its garbage. It will literally just go into your trash can. ... show more
