  • Perfect for students, educators, and academics
I've bounced around between tablets for years. Every one of them was a solid content consumption device, but I have a phone and laptop for content consumption. So I was buying tablets and they were redundant. I've had this Onyx Boox Note Air 2 Plus for 5 months now and it has been the device I've been waiting for. Why? First I have around 1200 books on it, and I can make notes on the pages just like I was reading them on paper. No matter where I go I have my entire library with me. Always. I've sold and given away so many hard copy books because this has made them redundant. Second, I no longer bring my laptop to meetings. I preferred pen and paper, but (a) I'd never have access to the notes when I needed them after and (b) agendas and other meeting materials were sent electronically. The Boox Note Air 2 solves both these issues. I take notes on it just like writing on paper and I always have them on the cloud no matter where I am. I upload meeting materials, agendas, support documents etc to it. And If I need to get some info mid meeting, there's a browser on the device, along with access to my google drive, dropbox and onedrive. I don't need a laptop, this is better, and I don't need pen and paper, this is better. Can an iPad do this? Not really, why? Is writing on an iPad like writing on paper? No, but this is. Also there is no text inline annotation on the ipad or any android tablet to compare with this. No matter what the document - you can write on like it's paper., word docs, pdf, mobi, epub, everyone of them you can write on them like paper and your mark ups are there forever. So this device is, as the tagline claims, a tablet but much more than a tablet. It has all the perks of an app store (dropbox, browser, onedrive etc etc) and is the best document engagement tool imaginable. While it's not for content consumption, don't think that it's as slow as, say, a kindle. It's sharp when browsing, when needed. I've given it 5 months and after a lot of use I can see that this IS the device I've needed. It makes my life as an author, educator and researcher so much better. I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Better than the competition
I was one of the original backers of the 1st generation Remarkable. It was a fantastic product, but after using it for a while, I began to notice some issues that made it less than ideal. Lack of a front light was, for me, the biggest issue. I used it for note taking at crime scenes (I’m a forensic investigator), and it was completely useless at night. Versatility was another issue. Pretty much, it was an ‘as is’ product. What it came with was what you were stuck with (unless you were a tech wiz able to sideload other apps and such). After a while, I gave up. When Remarkable 2 came out, I didn’t even bother because it had no front light either. I’ve tried other products since, but kept looking at the Onyx Boox Note for a while. Flip-flopping on whether I should buy it or not. It’s pricey. There’s no doubt about it, and I was nervous about spending that much money on another gadget that would just go on a shelf. Last week, I finally broke down and bought the Note 2 Plus. I’m now kicking myself for waiting so long. It has everything I was hoping. Instant access to an App Store (without having to do a bunch of cyber stuff to get things up and running. An amazing paper-like feel when writing. For the most part, the interface is extremely intuitive (it took me about thirty minutes or so to figure out what most the icons stood for and how to navigate everything reasonably well). The device itself just feels good in my hands, as does the included stylus. I do wish the stylus had an eraser, or at least a button to switch between pen and eraser. Also, the magnet doesn’t really do a great job locking the stylus in place (especially if you’re used to an iPad Pro/Pencil combo). But stylus issues are minimal for me. I don’t want to carry an iPad Pro to scenes. Don’t want the blue glare. Hate writing on an iPad too. No, so far, this Onyx Boox Note 2 Plus is exactly what I was hoping for. ... show more

  • Great for distraction free notes
I love this. I wanted something for taking notes in meetings. I had my hands briefly on an iPad pro with an Apple pen. I didn't like how it felt. The hard pen tip on the glass felt awkward and I still had to copy my notes out of the note taking app and into something else. With BOOX, writing, feels more natural even of not QUITE like a pen and paper (my husband described it like a felt tip pen on stiff paper). Because the handwriting works in pretty much any app, and it can run just about any Android app, you have a lot of options. I can jot notes, jump into a mind-mapping app, make a flow chart, and have everything waiting for me when I return to my PC. I work in IT and write a lot of knowledge base articles. With BOOX I can write right in the mobile app for our KB system and publish right from there. (Published three articles while getting my oil changed this weekend.) Even though it can run any Android app the e-ink display is not good for video or web browsing or things that require the screen to update quickly, smoothly, or in color. This means I'm not distracted by social media apps or instant messaging. I can get my work done. The display is great in dark rooms or in sunlight. I'm looking forward to trying it as an eReader on the beach next summer. You can also connect a Bluetooth keyboard for more distraction-free writing. The battery life is great too. I think I've charged it like 3 times and I've had it for months. All in all, I'm very happy with this product. ... show more
