This is a nice flexible kit of poles (2) and webbing straps that, in combination, allow the middle of a boat cover (not provided) to be lifted and supported like a tent. That allows rainwater to run down and off the sides, front and back rather than forming a lake in the middle of the boat. There are two poles with attached adjustable webbing straps on three sides on of the plastic top "mushroom" cap that hook onto the boat or trailer (bow and sides for one, stern and sides for the other). An additional strap runs between the two caps. The poles are telescopic, in 3 sections. It sounds like they used to have problems with the poles collapsing down, but they now add screw clamps to use above each telescopic joint to fix that. These haven't had any problems so far, with those clamps in place. There are bags that can be filled with water to weight down the base of each pole if desired (included). Once the frame is constructed and tightened down, the boat cover is placed over it and cinched down, forming a stretched tent. I've used similar systems before, and they can give good results in terms of keeping water out of the stored covered boat in rain and staying in place in normal winds. If there is enough slope on the "tent", they're even pretty good with light snow. The "mushroom" tops on the poles spread the load over a wider area of the cover, reducing the likelihood of tearing in normal use. They are definitely not recommended for use when hauling the boat behind a vehicle, however. ... show more

This hood support rod is easy to install and remove. I followed the procedure in the picture to install. After installation, I adjusted the hood rod to the proper support size as needed and pulled the straps tight to reinforce my hood, allowing rain to slide down without collapsing the hood. And I found that they had enough height to raise the tarp to where it could easily run water. The material is very solid and I feel I can use it for a long time. The base has a strong stability, the pole support is not easy to tip over, and it is more stable than the thin base I used before. All in all, it's been good so far. ... show more

We have a lake house in addition to our primary home. We have three Jetskis, a Tritoon (hereafter referred to as a Pontoon) in the dock, and my boat that is stored dry off premises and placed in the water when needed. The Pontoon will stay in the water at the dock all season. It has some years on it but has a 220HP inboard/outboard that meets our needs. The cover needs to be replaced but we just keep running with it. We are missing one of the support poles and part of the cap on another one needs help. I thought that this set would come in handy, and it will. However, I would not rely exclusively on this set at all. We have eyelets for four poles so I would need another set anyway. I do see some issues with this set. The poles themselves are nice. They seem strong and I like the extension mechanism. It is easy to use. For the life of me, I cannot see the need for or the usefulness of the "weight bags". You have to fill them with water and I cannot see them sitting on that base as pictured on the link. There are two issues here as I see it. One, if you maintain the proper tension in the poles between the base and your cover, they aren't going to go anywhere and you certainly don't need "weight bags". Two, I do not want ANYTHING containing water stored beneath my cover in the off season. We already put three cartons of a moisture absorbing product under the cover in the off season in order to collect moisture and fight the buildup of mold and mildew. What if those things leak? Sorry, I cannot see the need for those. Another issue is the poles and the caps. Our Pontoon has a pole with a two part cap. Part of the cap screws in from the bottom of the cover through the eyelet. It screws into another part that covers the top of the eyelet and is BIGGER than the eyelet itself. The two-part design of those caps is a bit frustrating to assemble, but it does allow them to fit tightly into the eyelets and that shields water from reaching the eyelet and finding its way beneath the cover. The cap on this set has to sit beneath the eyelet. You will have to have incredible tension on that pole to keep water from entering because it WILL gather around the threads that are around the eyelet. Then, on top of that issue, there are three openings in each cap for those straps that are pictured in the link. That looks like a great idea on paper. For one thing, if you had a cover with no eyelets you could configure it with these straps and poles to stay up and in place. But who has that for a Pontoon? I would guess the answer is not many. And you are certainly not going to go and have a new custom cover made just so you can use this set. I do not like those strap openings sitting beneath the cover and so close to what will be the edge of an eyelet (assuming, of course that none of them will be seen through the eyelet.....I will know that answer shortly as we will be spending a lot of time there in the next two weeks). In summation, this set is okay but not exceptional. ... show more

This product comes with poles, I ordered once and needed two more poles so I reordered twice and both times the product states it comes with poles . Instructions state poles included but now I have received twice with no poles. You can not use the product without the poles.
